Hi folks..

Just swapped my winter wheels for the TRD's yday night and today morning realized that the brake drums have a layer of rust on them. What is the easiest or most reliable way to get rid of this..permanently??

 

Most reliable is to clean them up and put on an anti-corrosion paint. You can try these from Eastwood:

Rust Dissolver

Brake Drum Coating

On my last car the OEM color was not black, so I used a stainless steel high temp paint. This needs heat to be activated, on headers the exhaust gas does it, for brakes you may need to bake the drum.

Stainless Brush-on Paint

 

I would expect that the rust is superficial and should disappear with some heavy braking.

 

Drum Brakes? On the g2xB??

 

I just caught that, xB2 has 4-wheel disc. I have the 1gen with drums. If the rust is on the smooth braking surface of the rotor, it should come right off with liberal application of the brake pedal. DO NOT paint the rotor surface. if the caliper or center hub are rusting, those can be cleaned and painted with caliper paint.

I've noticed superficial rust on my rotors when the car has sat in the driveway over a rainy weekend.

 

^^then u drive and ur wheels look like you drove through a dust storm!!! I hate that!
