Default Rust spot on new car

Hi everyone, brand new 2011 XB owner here.
Had the car for only 1 week, washed it for the first time and look what I have discovered? It’s on the lower side of the driver’s door.
I was furious when I saw that, a rusted stone chip on a brand new car.
There was also one on the hood but it was already touched up before, looks like by the dealer.
I’ll be taking it back to the dealer to have it fixed.

What would you do if you find this out on your new car?

Trying this IMG code...not sure if it works...but if not, please see link.

looks like a piece paint is missing. most likely by rock chip. I got a lot rock chips on the hood, but never rust like that.

Yeah the dealer should take care of that under warranty for you.

Just gotta stress this, the stone chips were there before even I picked up the car last week! I wasn't the one who got these chips, as the car was barely driven.

Anyhow, went to the dealership, they said the bottom part will have to be repainted under warranty, but suggested me to wait a couple years, might as well. So be it.

I wasn't happy about the sale guy trying to hide it from me, he knew about the one on the hood for sure as they are the ones touched it up.

Then again, it's the dealership and I shouldn't expect much. Unless I'm buying a really expensive vehicle perhaps?

Why did you take delivery of the car? I would not of allowed that car in my possession unless they took off some serious coin. Thats HORRIBLE.

Drawback to waiting is the paint color will be harder to match (my SW has yellowed with time, but perhaps the silver is more stable). But either way, any exposed metal/rust spots need to be seriously attacked ASAP to prevent further corrosion and all chips need to be touched up.

^^^X2, why wait? because it costs a pretty penny to paint stuff the right way. i don't think chipped paint its covered under warranty or else the whole front end of my car, along with most other owners would already be painted under warranty. They sold you a damaged car, so its their responsibility to fix it. In a couple of years their gonna deny they sold you the car like that or hope you forget about it. Its going to be your word against theirs, so they'll say you did it and its not covered under warranty or some BS to screw you over man...

Make them fix it NOW!!, why would you trust anything they say?, they already sold you a car like that, didn't they?. Don't fall for their game

I do have pictures and emails to the salesperson documenting this, but you've got a good point.

they wont care what kind of documentation you have. They will just say you waited to lon and are over the warranty or try to say some normal wear and tear BS..I would have them fix it now. I would raise hell if my brand new car had rust on it and they tried to tell me to wait 2 years.

Once rust starts it is almost impossible to stop. And, I don’t think the dealer is going to put in all the work that is needed to stop the rust from spreading. I would ask for a new door, I knew they will not give it to you so that’s when you lawyer up and get your money back, new car or a new door.
That suck, I have learned my lesson from finding scratches on the trunk of a car a bought a long time ago. I spend about an hour looking it over, and yes the sales guy was on my care the entire hour.
Good luck man.

PS. Don’t you think Scion Corporate should look over this sit once in a while and see what they could do to improve there dealerships. We all have horror stories to tell.

^^ We are looking and are certainly interested in assisting in the resolution process

OP- Please feel free to call our Customer Experience department (866-707-2466) about this issue. If it's more convenient, I can PM you about it too, but we'd like to get an official case documented for you and get some more details about this.

What a pleasant surprise! Hopefully you guys can really help. Good to know that Scion is watching. We're located in Ontario, not sure if it matters?
My wife(this car is actually for her) and I both love the XB very much, but this experience/incident certainly made what suppose to be a happy event sour.

Jennifer, I’d certainly like to make this an official case, as I didn’t find the saleperson very helpful. I’m not going to go into boring details here. So yes, would you please PM me?

Thank you very much.

So here's an update, I havn't gone to Scion "Canada" yet, wanted to see what they're willing to do first (Jennifer is Scion U.S, and I really thank her for stepping in earlier).
Spoke to the GM last week, but seems like he's bouncing this back to the sales guy wanting him to take care of things, which is fine, as long as they can really settle this, but things aren't going too quickly so far, not surprised. But I hate it cause I know they're playing this stalling game.

I know they'll fix it under warranty for sure(repaint the section). But I'm not happy that I paid for a brand new car but ended up with a "new car" with a repainted door. I think what's fair is at least they discount my original invoice or throw in a rust proof program which I've asked them for.

Will update you guys later.

Thank you.
