Default Rusting already???

Hey folks, what's happening... Right now I find myself in a state of shock, as after I washed my car I noticed rusting from stone chips on the ROOF of the vehicle.... There are multiple spots where this is occurring but one of them is bubbling under the paint.... Take a look....

Anybody ever experience rusting on their xb? I'm only a 2012 and owned the vehicle for a year. It was a corp demo before I purchased it. I looked up the and read that Toyota provides a 5 year corrosion warranty for new vehicles. Would I fall under that category as a corp demo? I'll be taking it to the dealer soon... This is kind of heartbreaking and a ____ off....

I'm assuming they would sand out and repaint... But isn't rusting permanent ? Sort of like a reoccurring cancer ?

My 2009, where the hood drops down in the front above the grill, is eaten up with rock chips and none of them are rusting.

We drive a lot of hwy and it has taken some abuse on the nose.

I took it to the dealer they said they don't cover corrosion due to chips but they want to bring it to the attention of the senior tech and see if they could do anything for me. But they said most likely not.... Seems like body shop is where I have to go

I have the same problem as you on my 09. Right at the top of the windhsield in several spot. Thinking about cleaning it up and dipping just the roof black as a cheap fix. ____es me off.

I have a 2008 xB which has seen SIX northeast Ohio winters and the front end looks like a disaster from rock chips and highway driving... I currently have 96,000 on my xB.

No rust to be found... And I have quite a few big pits that went beyond the paint... I am guessing the steel used did not get coated properly in your case or some manufacturing issue. My car has basically no rust anywhere (aside from steel under, but even that is well controlled), especially considering all the salt and wear/tear.

I would for sure go to Scion Corporate.

So I went to a different dealer to see if they would react differently to the situation. They told me that in order for them to do anything I would need to go to one of their collision repair centers to get a summary and quote of the condition my car has. So I went to the joint and they quoted 1500 with the following report

I then took this report back to scion. They called the location because they required pictures of the rust . after the phone call they told me it was due to chip and you're not covered.

So if it were due to chips , couldn't they have inspected the car from the beginning and declined me? Anyways

I am thinking of going corp. If there is anyone who's got some pointers before I go guns in I'd greatly appreciate it .

I've only got 7000km left before my 60k expires. But I'm guaranteed the 8years on Toyotas amazing rust protection policy

The factory warranty is for "rust through" not damage due to chips that expose the bare metal to the elements. Most modern paint is pretty thin so it chips easily. Once you expose bare steel to the elements it'll rust pretty quickly. Just give it a light sanding to remove the rust, and use touch up paint and clear to fill it back in.

This. It's a chipped paint. What did you expect it to do?
