Red face Scion xB Dash Button Question!

Hi everyone,

I bought a 2010 Scion xB a couple of months ago. So far I am loving this car!

I have a question about something on the dash of my 2010 Scion xB Release Series 7.0 above the number identification plate. I have a light/button on in my xB (pictured... if the image insert worked). The button does not light up at all, but I can push it and it clicks as if it is turning something on or off. It does not control the LED lights in the cupholders or dash (I have a different button down below near the cupholders that does this). I have not figured out what, if anything, it does when I push it. I have tried looking in my user manual but I cannot find anything. I have also been googling it and did find someone on a different site post about a similar button (that one lit up blue) and some said it was for a security system, but the manual referenced for that does not match my button. I believe this is after-market but I cannot figure out what it is for. Does anyone have any information? Thanks so much!

I was the one who suggested it was for an aftermarket alarm in the thread on ClubxB and the OP confirmed that it was. Yours may not have the alarm connected any more or it just might not have power to it. Best bet is to drop the lower dash panel so you can look at the wiring and determine what it goes to.

Yeah, trace wire on back side and find where it goes. Make sure when you find alarm to disable it completely and re-connect the igntion-cutoff wire to take alarm out of loop. They always seem to fail at worse times and disable your car out in middle of nowhere.

As it turns out, this button/light is an after-market remote starter that was installed in the car but has been disconnected. When we had the rearview backup camera installed last week I asked them to check it out for me and that is what they told me. When I asked them if I should connect it they said, "Don't even bother." I might revisit it because my daughter (who will be driving this xB) lives in snowy cold central NY... and could really use a remote starter!!
I will update this if I get any more info. Thanks!

Pretty cold up there, eh? Unfortunately, prolonged idling is hard on the catalytic converter(s). Toyota recommends no warm-ups.

Oh, thank you for letting me know! I guess this is why they said not to bother with it. I will just have to tell my daughter to suck it up!!

Now I know why the catalytic converter in my husband's Tacoma went this year at only 132K miles. He idles in the driveway often (talking on the phone), much to my chagrin. Now at least I have some factual basis to support my requests not to idle!
