Default Slip sliding away

2010 xb 42 ooo miles. Sitting on my slightly angled driveway (10-15 deg)with engine off and car in 1st gear or Reverse(manual)we felt the car slide forward just a little bit, then again and again and again. It did it constantly until I put the handbrake on. Ever hear of any ScionxB manual tranny problems? I have owned manuals all my life and never experienced this before.

To me sounds like compression bleeding off the motor. But I'm not sure

Follow up :went to a Toyota Scion dealer and theirs did the same.

Default Clutch Pedal Grab Area Bottom middle or top

Any xB'ers Gen2 out there with manual transmissions can you tell me approx. how high your clutch pedal is or does it grab at the bottom or mid travel.

I always use my handbrake, especially on inclines. What is the mileage on your clutch? Clutch engagement with the pedal should be pretty low. If its getting higher, its just starting to wear.

Like posted xB has only 42,000mi. Clutch is not near the floor I would say 2 inches up.
On the incline, it was not very steep, just my driveway. You live in AZ you know what I mean by that. Most driveways are built this way, but it might depend on if you live in a new house VS old downtown home anyway, its just that I've never had another car do this.

If you pop the hood I'm sure you'll see the crank turning. Set the hand brake or chalk the wheels, a 4 cylinder won't hold a hill well by compression and friction.

Clutch is fine if it turning the motor over. 10-15deg shouldn't be enough force to overrun the compression tho. How many miles? I'd be concerned about low compression and/or valve seat wear for this to happen.

Miles are stated in OP. 43800 now. Dealer said "no worries that's why they have a parking brake, I suggest you use it".

I agree with you it shouldn't be enough but it is. I've never had a standard do this and I've owned a few 4 cyc. before. Acura CL nope, Chevy S10, nope. I read others have talked about it too now that I've researched it more. One guy measured the angle and it was only 9 degrees. Flippin nuts!!

I think its crazy, suppose you go to a valet parking place and the young kid parking the cars doesn't set the parking brake cause he doesn't know that the little engine in our Boxes doesn't hold it on a hill. Wham you got a damaged bumper or some ___ suing you because you rolled into he Dino Ferrari.

"COME ON" TOYOTA !!

Less friction = better mpg. They are working on mpg in every way they can.
