Default Thinking of buying 08 xB

Alright heres my story, I went to a toyota lot and they have a silver 5 spd wich im fine with (even though I have never owend a 5 spd in my life), anyways I have a 06 toyota matrix I wanted to trade in for the xB, heres the deal they give me, 13500 for my car and it only has 14,000 miles on it and its a xr edition so it has every option available for that car. So im like thers no way im takeing a hit like that you guys agree with me?

One more thing, how many people ever buy a car and never driven the thing? I really want a manual becasue I think it would be alot funner to drive.

Its also funny when you go to a lot they ask how much you looking to pay a month. The next time I got to a dealer im going to say how much you going to give me first.

That's actually a fairly decent trade value. Run it through www.kbb.com and you'll see that it's right in line.

You'll almost always get more if you sell privately but it's less convenient. The question is how much is that convenience worth to you? Only you can decide.

The dealers have lots of tactics they use. One is asking how much you want to pay a month. That is the worst way to negotiate the price of a car because it allows them the most flexibility in how they shuffle the numbers around. Always, always get the bottom line cash price first.

I'm not sure I understand you - are you saying you don't drive stick at all or just never owned a stick-shift car? Either way, you should spend as much time driving stick shift cars as you can before you decide to buy one.

I agree.
If the sales guy steps into "this is your payment" land, I tell him we are only discussing the price of the car(s). If he goes there again, I stand up and head for the door. I cannot be stopped.
I guess not everyone will drive up to 200 miles to buy a car on the principle of the thing.
I have three dealers within a 30 miles radius of home who have eliminated themselves from my list when looking for a new car (which is something I do far to often btw. )
We bought a 2006 Prius 80 miles away last year and I just bought my 08 xB 170 miles away because of local idiot dealers.
It's the only time I miss the big city. lol

I would say that 13,500 - 14000 would be about what that car should go for on trade.

I've never driven a stick as my normal daily driver before, im sure it cant be all that hard to do, after all I have been rideing a motorcycle for a long time so I get the whole clutch thing.

There was another dealer I went to last night and they had that new blackberry color there, although it wasent run thru the shop yet so it wasent ready to be sold to the public yet, gotta say its one sexy color. If they can give me 14,300 on my car we have a deal, should i tell them that ? or should I see what they give me first?

I would see what they put out there first. Chances are, if you tell them a number they will come in lower than that number and wait to see if you will go for the bait. It is a game basically, they offer, you counter, they counter etc...

^^^^ +1

The only down fall to driving a stick .. traffic. Your left leg can get quite a work out if your not used to it.

There are so many posibilities out there to bump up the HP on the new xB2 thanks to the tC after market ... IMO it would be foolish not to get a stick. It will make a world of difference when you add that turbo set up.

Well I did it, I got a xB2 from a differnt dealer and they gave me 14,250 for my car, thats only 50 bucks less than I wanted, I will be picking it up wednday afternoon, the color is that blackberry pearl or something like that, my first mod will be wheels so what do you guys think will be the best color match for that car?

I was thinking black wheels with a polished lip what do you think?

BTW I rememberd my wifes cousins car was a stick shift (zx2) and I asked her if I could take it out for a spin, she said sure so I went out for about a 1/2 hour in verious spots and stopped it started out on hills and things and I did fine cant wait til I get my new car.
