Thinking of trading xD for xB
Due to the growing family, it looks like I'll need a bigger car. My '08 xD has served me well. I've been thinking about getting a 2011 xB. I haven't seen any threads about the 2011 so far, so I don't know how many people have been buying them. I was looking for opinions on the car - how it handles, gas mileage (I average 31 in my D with mixed driving, but about 37 highway), and how it is off the line. I'm not a racer by any means, but I've heard the xB tends to be a little sluggish.
Thanks in advance!

Well the xb is MUCH bigger than the Xd and will smoke it off the line stock. However gas mileage varies and i get about 280 a tank and i tend to floor it a bit. i drive an 2010. diff between a 2011 and 2010 is mostly looks and nothing structure wise really. I think you would love the xb. more room, faster and you get a whole another slew of mods to do!
My average is greater than 26 (last was 27.5mpg) without any highway miles at all and mostly stop and go town driving (hand calculation, not digital readout). Ergo, I'll disagree with the 10mpg penalty -- if you drive the same way as with the xD, your mpg will be lower, but I would expect more like 5 mpg highway.
Be aware that the digital readout tends to inflate the mpg numbers, so if you want an accurate comparison, hand calculate for both vehicles using same driving conditions, same gas station and grade, and similar total distance.

I just don't want him to be surprised. Many smaller cars are forgiving and if you drive aggressive, they don't suffer, the xb does. In Va, with 80 percent hwy, I coule hit 29 if I tried. Now that I'm 50/50, I can hit 27 if I try, 25 if I drive a little spirited. Then theres guys here getting like 22.
I have a 5 speed 2011 xB. Currently getting about 24mpg in town. As the engine breaks-in, I expect the mileage to get slightly better. The xB has lots of leg room, front and back. Go for it, you will love it.
I mean, really, 24-27 aint bad for this car, compared to what some get. You get a lotta size, and much better power.
On the flip side, our full size 07 sonata kills my xB on economy, and its big too. Plenty of midsize cars out there that'll run circles around the mileage. Just depends on whats important to the OP, and how much they wanna spend.

One thing I really liked about the xB over the xD was the room. There is plenty of room in the back hatch with the seats up if you need to haul groceries. Plus once the seats are down, you can haul some serious stuff in that car.
The xB has a C-pillar blind spot that the xD hardly has. So backing up in it, you have to be a little more careful.

I get 18.9mpg
it's sad. But my foot is made out of led.
Also, let's not kid ourselves, it's not the most comfortable car especially for the driver and passenger. The seats suckkkkkkkkk.
Definitely better than the xD though and would serve you better.
