Default Throttle body service and clean injectors

I have a 40 month old 2008 Scion xB with 22,000 miles. I had the check engine and VSC warning lights come on and therefore took it to Frank Smith Toyota-Scion in Mission, TX. At no charge, they replaced the #4 ignition coil under Service Bulletin Number: SSB-0028-09. (On 2/7/09 at 12,185 miles they also replaced the # 2 ignition coil when the same warning lights came on).
While at the dealership, the service “adviser” said Toyota recommends cleaning the fuel injectors and performing throttle body service. I had no drivability issues and have never heard of such a thing. My maintenance schedule does not mention that anywhere. Has anyone else been approached by Toyota service for this?
Bob

The fact that you have had two coils replaced I would look at the engine harness being the real problem. Have a look at this thread, https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...8+main+harness , and see if it seems similar.

This sounds likely to me! Having to replace coil packs is very suggestive -- in fact, the entire symptom set raises alarms !

As a person who makes my living in vehicle service, let me tell you that vehicles DO need a cleaning service from time to time. We suggest about every 30K to keep the valves & injecters clean. Most gas today SUCKS and causes carbon build-up within 5K miles. My RS6 developed a rough idle at only 9K miles. I switched to Shell fuel with nitrogen and it helped a lot within the first tank. Ran 1 tank with Lucas and engine ran normal again.

I have had engines apart in my shop with as little as 15Kon them and the carbon build-up on the valves and injecters was already getting bad. Inj service is a preventative service, it is not listed in any service manual, but that does not mean it is not needed.
