Default Tow a pop-up trailer?

Has anyone towed a small pop-up trailer with their XB2? I am contemplating something like this, but don't want to bend the unibody or anything:

If it's not recommended to tow something, I wouldn't. You'll be causing excessive strain on the engine and the rest of the drivetrain and will kill the life of the vehicle.

Towing is not recommended at all, but some people do tow small lightweight storage trailers, or jet ski/PWC with the xB2.

That pop-up camper weighs 1500 pounds. WAY TOO HEAVY!
Heavy duty oil & trans coolers won't even help you here.

Don't do it.

The one you linked to shows 2090 lbs. GVW.

Like CIONIDE said, don't do it.

There are lighter weight models including some that are designed to be towed by motorcycles. I have a friend who tows one, but haven't been able to get a hold of him to find out who makes it. It's similar to these... http://www.trailmasterinc.com/campers.html Here's a slightly bigger lightweight tent trailer... http://www.jumpingjacktrailers.com/tent-trailer.cfm

I'm not saying you should but I passed an XB towing a Civic a couple of weeks ago.

FWIW, a Highlander with the same engine and tranny is rated to tow 2500lbs and the Camry is rated for 2000lbs.

Hey ScionFred, long time no see; I hope all is well.

I still haven't ventured to get the CATZ halogen reverse bulb from SigmaAuto yet.

(Sorry for the threadjack mark.)

These little trailers are neat. Thanks for the suggestions!

I saw someone on here tow one of those style trailers in a FIRST GEN! so, imagine it could be done but I'd be scared.

Yeah, I think the "international" xB is underrated, but it's hard to tell what the unibody design is really up to ! My suspicion is it's good for near 2K pounds, but 1100 pounds seems safer. I'll go with the latter !

Guess that's what you get when the car manufacturer lacks ***** ! Of course, given the U.S. legal environment, can you really blame them? I'm inclined to believe the most reaching of the off shore claims, but that doesn't mean you're safe. So, I'm constrained to being both conservative and a chicken - cluck, cluck, cluck! FWIW -- Don't blame Toyota, blame the worthless legions of lawyers our country is proud to deploy!
