Default Towing with the new XB

Well, I am shopping the XB against the Element SC and while I like the XB a lot more due to the price point, I notice that it cannot tow while the element can pull 1500 pounds. I like this feature as I would like to tow a sportbike with it and a trailer for small jobs like finishing the basement etc....

Anyone tow with the new XB? I see that some people towed with Gen 1 using custom hitches and I was wondering since the 2nd gen has more power and toque (more so than the Element), it would surely be able to tow?

Any advice appreciated!

It's not always about the power and torque though. You could probably actually tow something... but the excess wear and tear on the engine and drivetrain in general is likely why they don't recommend it. It's just not made to do it.

Although the drivetrain and engine are the exact same one as in the Rav4 and its rated at 1500lbs

That's where the frame and body design come into play... which, of course, I forgot to mention originally.

where again, the XB monocoque chasis just like the rav4 one(note: no frame) is way sturdier than the Corolla chasis which coincidentally is rated at 1500 lbs too. (with a weaker engine and rear drum brakes by the way)

We saw someone towing a mini trailer and two ATV's the other day the guy was doing like 75 with a first gen xB.

Reading the owners manual says you should not tow anything. I guess they put that in there to cover themselves incase something goes wrong.

The good ol' CYA concept.

Well that's interesting then... could always call Scion and see if they have a "real" answer then. I was just trying to go with what might be the obvious.

But it really just seems to be a big CYA warning.

I heard the 1st gen could tow upto 1500lbs, not recomended tho. So I would say you would have no problems with towing with the 2nd gen xb.

If you find a hitch for the 2nd gen, post up where you found it so I can get one also...

I pull a 28' enclosed car trailer with my Gen2 xB.

Really, I have a pickup truck to pull things with, I drive the Scion when I want a car that gets good mileage and is fun to drive. I learned long ago that you can't please everyone, and there is no such thing as the perfect vehicle. You need to decide what really is important to you in a vehicle, then buy the one that fits the closest to that. Or buy several different vehicles.

Many people have used their xB1 to tow motorcycles and jet skis on those kinds of trailers, and light cargo on light flat kit trailers. And the xB1 uses store-bought hitches from
http://www.hitchsource.com/ and http://www.etrailer.com/. So watch for the hitches to be available for the xB2, and tow away. Just don't try pulling one of those steel lawn service trailers, or a U-Haul box trailer. They will use up your 1500 lbs before you even get started.

Default Anyone try this hitch, and if you did please post pictures.

I saw this link in a previous post, and looks like they make a hitch for the Gen2 xB.

http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2008_Scion_xB.htm

Has anyone tried this out? And if so could you post picts.

Thanks.

1500 is about equal to the 5 porkers I saw stuffed in one the other day. It looked like they had just gotten done cleaning up at the local all-you-can-eat buffet.
