Is Toyota still learning on the XB?
hi...just checked out the RS 8 in "voovoo blue" and tho I'm too much of a greybeard to care about the ground effects, I love the color.
I drive an 09 in stingray metallic and have had several of the rattles and troubles shared by others here. couldn't believe that an 11 owner was already contending w/ the windshield problem (which I have as well)
I'm wondering if with the 11s in general (and the RS series) in particular, Toyota is incorporating knowledge amassed from the problems of previous years. and correcting things like the B pillar rattle at the factory.
I'm a longtime Toyota owner and have witnessed this with the Highlander and other vehicles, esp in midcycle "refresh" years. but the posts about new xBs suggest otherwise.
any insights would be tremendous.
specifically regarding the RS line, do these cars receive any additional "love" at the manufacturing stage? does Toyota treat these any differently in terms of the basic mechanics, etc.?
thanks! best in 2011!

Whenever it comes to Release Series, there are several modifications added to the cars. Because the equipment added is contracted with Toyota, they receive kickbacks from the manufacturer when featuring their parts, such as Kenstyle body kits, Five Axis kits, and Alpine stereo equipment.
The nature of the vehicle does not change. It only receives alterations of equipment that separate it from a typical OEM car, which is non-Release Series.
The issues with the xB's are highly fixable, and none of them negatively affect the car. For the rattles, the A and B pillar rattles have been solved. For the windshield creaking, it is plastic contacting with the windshield, which is also fixable.
The only problem seen with the xB's is the water pump issue, which is corrected by bringing it to the dealership.
The only issue I've seen that hasn't popped up is the electrical relay that appeared in 08's that I have not seen in other years, at least posted here on ScionLife.

It wasn't an epidemic like the water pumps became, but I saw sporadic posts about people having a problem with either a relay or some form of wiring harness that went out. When this problem arose, the car was unable to start, or would turn off on its own accord. I have not seen that problem ever on my car (I'm at 54,000 miles, knock on wood), but I recall a few people posting about it here.
Thankfully it's not an epidemic, and I doubt that I will have that problem, considering the mileage as well as the age of my car.

Sounds like the early defective engine harness problem. There's a serial number break and TSB dealing with it. Mine was built in April 2007, but its serial number is after the break (thankfully
).
the cars do not get any additional love, just extra parts. we just got our pillars checked yesterday and the cowl squeaks also. they put some stuff in the cowl to stop the squeaks and insulated the pillars. thats what they said.
Links to each fix please. I'm having all of these problems.

The solution presented in the B-Pillar thread also applies to the A-Pillar, as far as I have seen. I have been following these threads for quite some time and will potentially be pursuing the fixes on my xB this summer, if time permits.
And by the way...
