Toyota's new 2.5 L Dual VVT-i engine on Scion..
Toyota recently launched new 2.5 L Dual VVT-i engine which is more powerful (179 HP) and more fuel-efficient (22-23/28-29 MPG). It is currently being installed on 2009 RAV4 and Toyota is planning to install it on all new Camrys.
Does anyone know if Toyota is planning to install this engine on 2010 Scion xB and tC?
Please share all info you can find....

An old worn 05-06 tC with a worn motor can make use of that after tons of hard driving and racing.
it's a good replacement for blown motor..new 179 hp> old 160 hp motor.. that if its easily swappable

I am curious my self as I am getting a xB soon as my Ford sells which is not doing so well.
I am not having the best of luck selling it. I dropped it 50% off KBB and still no buy.

From what I understand, the tC will be discontinued soon. The last I heard, it was 2010 was when Subaru and Toyota were teaming up to make the replacment tC vehicle.
That is when my lease is up on th xB2, so I am excited to see what they can produce.

I was under the impression, that the last year for the tC was going to be 2010 and that tC was going to be a limited edition TRD tC with TRD everything: supercharger, strut bar, sway bar, engine cap, etc . . .
Following the LE tC, it will be replaced with the concept Fuse (not the exact car obviously) produced by Toyota and Subaru.

It's not gonna be a real replacement for the tC IMO as it's not gonna be as affordable.. with a Subaru name on it will be more price.

One reason I looked hard at the xD since it has a Dual VVT-i engine, which gives more power and more fuel economy in the same package. I just needed more room and afraid the active head restrains would break my mothers fused neck.
I think one of the Matrix series or Pontiac Vibe they accidentally put in the Dual VVT-i engine in it for a run, but I don't know where I read it.
Owning an xB G2, the Camry drive train rocks. I have no complaints.

This is what Scion Corp told us. If Subaru and Toyota teamed up..the car WOULD be a TOYOTA, not SCION.
The iQ is going to be a SCION. 2010 is suppose to be the fuse and the last tCs would be the Release Series.

Excuse me the tC replacement is based on the Fuse. I'm sure they are just figuring out how to make it under 20 grand.
So what to take off and whether its worth it to put a bigger engine.

I hope the Head is interchangeable with the 2AZ-FE in our cars. Be rad to make a Frankenstein project like the Honda guys have been doing for years, with the B Series engine and now the K Series.
Maybe we can finally make respectable n/a power, instead of boost as our only option.

Eh wouldn't work even if it physically fit together ... the ECU just wouldn't know what to do with the Dual VVT-i.
Toyota needs to do something in order to sway people away from the Hyundai Genesis coupe. in no way should the Subaru/Toyota project be branded a Toyota. I think in order to compete with the Genesis coupe and others they need to market it as a Scion.
The Toyota brand has lost all its reputation in having a reasonably priced sports coupe in its line up. this is where the Scion brand would do Toyota some good. if they make it a Scion they can make a base mode for around 20k with 200hp and an option for a TRD Turbo kit and other goodies.
Toyota could then logically market a Toyota Supra for people who want to eventually upgrade from a Scion.
The Subaru/Toyota project defiantly wont be the tC replacement though. Toyota needs something in there line up to compete in the FWD sports coupe segment.
But I think one of the biggest problems right now is that the Scion tC owners have no where to upgrade to with in the Toyota family forcing them to look else where when buying a new car.
The future of Toyota and Scion can be bright but only if they make the right choices... here's crossing my fingers

Where there's a will there's a way. Honda owners convert older non VTech engines to VTech all the time.
An ECU swap would be needed in our situation or some sort of stand alone.
Of course this is all speculation right now. Here's to hoping that they are physically interchangeable.
