Default Underseat sub box

Does anyone know if this sub box will fit under the passenger seat? I know there are some designs on this site to build my own box, but I'm not good at stuff like that. So, it would be so much more convenient if this one would work. Thanks for the help in advance.

Guess I should mention that I have an '09 RS6.0

How much clearance do you have under the seat? The spec says 6.5"

When I measured with tape, it was a little over 7". It seems from the measurements I took that it looks like it should fit, but I didn't want to get it and it not fit. Will it slide right under, is there someone who's bought the box and it fit without any mods?

Based on building my own under the seat boxes I would certainly measure twice. I do not feel it would fit based on my experience. It has been a couple of months since I built mine, but I seem to remember to take advantage of the height clearance under the seat, the front to back size was limited to approx 9"s. Under each seat is a depression in the floor that if you stay in more height is given. I put a JL Audio 6w3v3 under each seat and built the sealed boxes to their specs. You would also have room to build it to their vented box specs if desired. Good Luck.

I also designed a box to go under the passenger seat. What wpb2009xb is true about the 9". To be extra sure if that box will fit, do what I did and make a cardboard model and try it out in your car. With such an oddly-shaped space under the seat(s), this is really the only way to be sure if a certain box will fit if the dimensions are cutting it close.

I never thought about that rockthebeef. That's a really good idea. Thanks.

It fits, but requires a little work if you want to still slide the seat. I have the same box. To slide the seat, you'll have to relocate 2 sensors and bend or cut their original mounting brackets out of the way. Not very hard to do.

So, ScionFred, did you get it from ebay also? Is it worth it. How does it sound ? Thank you so much for your reply.

I bought mine from the same place on ebay. IMO it's worth it vs the time and materials to build your own. It sounds great to me for a shallow 10" sub in a small sealed enclosure. I'm using a 2 ohm ED SQ10 driven by a Kenwood 160W rms x1 amp. Be careful to choose a driver that can work in such a small (.3cf) enclosure. Many need at least .5cf and probably won't sound good.

I'd recommend resealing the mdf joints inside the box. Mine were caulked but not very well. I used a squeezable tube of silicone caulk to get to all of the mdf joints inside. I also added feet to my box to raise it off the floor another inch. I used a piece of 3/4" wood dowel rod and some slip-on rubber furniture feet. Just cut the dowel into to length, drill a hole through the center and use a long wood screw to secure them to the box. I painted them black with a perm marker so I wouldn't have to wait for paint to dry. You could also use this box firing up with no changes other than the sensor relocation.

I forgot to mention that ED will build you a custom box with whatever dimensions you want. It costs more but it's another option.

Happy to help. Have you picked out a driver and amp yet?

Here is a pic of the pass seat sensors, mounting bracket and where I moved them. I simply used channel locks to bend the bracket arms up. Others cut them off, whatever works.

Nope haven't picked those out yet. I'll have my husband take a look. He's pretty good at picking out that stuff. Thanks for the pics. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there looking for this info. It was so hard for me to find. I was contemplating the rear speaker box, but from what I've read, the underseat sounds much better.

Underseat sub boxes were a hot topic here about a year ago but not so much recently. I think there is a definite acoustical advantage to having the sub closer to the listener's ears. In back works well too but you need more power and a lower crossover point so it doesn't sound like it's behind you. Good luck with it.

Hey ScionFred! So, got my box installed yesterday and it sounds great! I ordered the 10 inch from ED also, with a Baha 700 amp from crutchfield.
I did a lot of looking around and they seem to be the only manufacturer who had a sub that would work in a .3cf enclosure. We also re-caulked the sub box. It wasn't sealed all the way around, only on the parts you could see.
Anyway, we installed it facing up instead of down. I like how it sounds that way better. Just enough bass to accompany the factory pioneer speakers. Granted it doesn't sound anything like my husbands 12's in his VW GTI, but I don't want to have to hang my head out the window of my car when I'm driving.
I think it's a great set up for someone who doesn't want to blast the doors off the car, but wants a great sounding system. Also, it was well worth the price we paid without all the trouble of having to build a box.
Since we had the dash apart, we also installed custom gauges, a/c **** overlays, and painted the dash trim red to match the car. It took us 6 hours total to do the sub install and to customize my dash. Now, not only does it sound great, it also looks great!
Again, thanks for your help!

That's great Jackie. I'm glad you like the sub setup and happy to help. If you get a chance, how about posting some pics of your sub install and dash. Everyone loves mod pics.
