Default User's manual ?

Has anybody gotten their hands on the XB2 user's manual ?

I would really like to get my hand on one.

Among others, I want to see what is their statement with regards to towing...

Cheers,

Rambug

If you own one then it should've came with the car. If not then perhaps you can bribe someone at your local dealership to give you one. I'm guessing the towing capacity for the 2gen xB is between 2500lbs to 3000 lbs. but I wouldn't recommend it.

The manuel says not to tow with the xB, and you can't look up other countries manuals because they only sell the xB in the US.

The dealer told me this when I asked him about towing. This is so that Toyota can cover their butts if anyone tries to do this.

I too will tow, just looking for a good hitch to buy.
check out this tread for hitchs.

I am guessing with a unibody and ~155 horses with a curb weight of over 3000lbs you would be able to tow 1000-1500 with a class I or II hitch.

I mean my 96 plymouth neon can tow 1000lbs, and it has like 120 horses, I know Edmunds says 132 but I don't believe it, and weighs 2416lbs.

I'm guessing you wanted to know what exactly the manual says. Here it is:

Scion does not recommend towing a trailer with your vehicle. Your vehicle is not designed for trailer towing.
I agree with others that a little trailer etc should be okay, but that's just my personal opinion.

I also note that it doesn't say anything about hitch mounted bike rack, etc. I will probably get a hitch myself.

Toyota says 0,my Rav4 was rated at 1500lbs with the same motor.I would says 1000lbs would be safe,1500lbs max.
With the rav4 i once towed a 3000lb boat once, wasn't safe but it pulled it no problem.
I'm planning on towing 2 jetskis with mine.Just under 1500lbs total.

Default towing

I've got a friend that tows his motorcycles and a small trailer with a Pasceo... It can be done. BUT keep in mind that if you do tow with it and you put that kind of wear and tear on your car and the manual says not to, then you void your warranty... Kinda risky if you ask me.

That's a good point. It would be sort of a pain to have to remove the hitch before taking the car in for service, just because I used it occasionally with a bicycle rack.

I can explain that I never towed with it, but something tells me it is not going to make much of a difference. Or am I being paranoid?

Yup... Seems like the installation of a hitch is in no way prohibited... It's to use it to tow a trailer that is prohibited. ...

My interpretation is that if you do not install a wiring harness for trailer lights, well then you could have sufficient grounds to say that you use your hitch to attach a bicycle carrier, not a trailer...

As for the Owner's Manual, most manufacturers provide public access to them in an electronic format.

I asked on their chat line, and they do not want to provide access to it. Buy the car, get the hardcopy manual.

It's a darn shame that Scion, the hip company, is so blatantly in an old-fashion "disabling" mood...

Cheers,

Rambug
