If they are worn....the warranty won't cover them.

How many miles do you have on the box?

i only have lil over 12k on the car. it just barely started yesterday. its been pretty windy in the o.c. with the sant ana's so maybe all the dust has something to do w/ it. hopefully its nothing serious the car still stops really good its just the noise that they are making

(It's time for the BBK upgrade!)

lol ya i wish if i had the money.

If you drive the car hard, 12K miles and worn brakes is not too far fetched.

Wear and tear item, not covered under warranty. If they are squealing change the brake pads asap before you ruin the rotors.

ive had my box in 3 times. i have 25k on it and they say that there is nothing wrong with pads or rotors, just normal wear. they started sqeeking around 12k as well. the dealer said there is nothing they can do because it is a wear item. im waiting to buy the trd upgrade so as of now im just dealing with it

ya, i mean the car still stops really good its just when i apply the brakes is when it "sounds" like the rotors are hitting something or grinding on something. Its like that revolution sound, im can actual hear the rotors rotating as i aply the brakes. then as im almost at a complete stop the sqeek like an old wooden door.

so im debating on whether or not to take it in. im gonna wash my car tonight and try and get most of the dust off with a air compressor then maybe tomorrow take the wheel off and inspect it myself.

thanx everyone 4 ur comments so far

I think your backing (dust) plates are rubbing against the rotor or rotors. When you grab the brakes to turn them the opposite way, you squeeze the plate against the rotor and it won't return to it's normal position. I think that's whats rubbing...

i tried pushing them back a little last night.

i had that problem when i installed my fron sway i accidently bent the dust plate into the rotor and i had put everything back and started 2 drive 2 test the sways and i could hear it. then i realized i had bent thre plate and bent it back into position and everything has been good ever since till yesterday. the sound now is a little different. it might be the same problem but i'll check it out tomorrow early in the morning make sure the plate is straight and everything looks normal if the sound is still there i'll take it in to find out what the noise is all about.

yeah the dealer even told me it had to do with driving habits (i dont drive it all that hard) and he said it could even have something to do with the wheel covers. which are factory parts.which doesnt make sense...

It's funny that I came across this thread tonight. For the past 2 months I've been dealing with this exact issue. I've taken the xB in to two shops who have both inspected the rotors, pads and backing plate and everything looked normal and in good shape. However, often while braking I will get a grinding noise and a vibration/shudder that I can feel in the cab. Toyota wont touch it because it's a wear item. The box has 30,000 miles on it.

Vibration/shudder....could that be the Anti-lock brake system having issues? Doesn't sound good though.

Take it into the dealership and have one of their techs ride with you and make sure you can duplicate the problem.

I have 21K on my box and had the brakes replaced at 12K. According to the service advisor this is this the normal. I paid about $225, have them check out before it cost you even more!

Man I must be lucky then. I have 14k on the orginals and not even a slight sign that they are close to being replaced. Never squealed and no grinding noises.
