First, call other dealerships in your area. If another dealership has an xB or can get you one sooner, get your deposit back from the first dealership. If no one else in your area can get one any faster than the first dealership, stick with the current dealership.

You are in a tough position with having a trade. Otherwise, there are dealers around with cars, you just have to find them.. I drove about 100 miles to get the color I wanted without waiting, but there were a number of them in my area. Good luck !

Instead of a trade, can you take it somewhere like Carmax? I sold my last vehicle to them, they gave me $1,000 more than the Toyota dealer was willing to pay. The Scion salesman even offered to follow me and bring me back so I could buy my xB from him. Impressive offer since the closest Carmax is about 40 miles away. I didn't take him up on it- too long to be trapped with a car salesman!

If you sell the car, you lose the sales tax credit, which would mean he would need to sell the car for 14, 800 just to break even, given New York's 8.375 % sales tax.
