Default Wheres the burning rubber smell coming from?

Twice now Ive been stuck intraffic and as the fan starts to cycle, temp staying less than half way and no ac on, I smell a burning rubber smell. Ive checked under the hood and do not see anything, but do notice a hose next to the exhaust manifold and then 2 that run across the from of the engine exhaust manifold to the passenger side.

I turned the ac on low to turn on the fan and when it was a complete stand still, put it in nutral and turned off the engine.

Is this normal? No threads regarding a burning smell other than exhaust oils from the factory. What should I do to lessen this? Hose covers? Exhaust wrap for the hoses?

Thanks

This has actually been discussed before. Its been summed up as normal smells from the high underhood temperatures in our car. Shouldn't pose a problem.

I'm at ~17,000 miles and the smell has gone away. I don't know when it stopped but one day I just noticed was gone.

17 thousand??? Yeah, I know a brand new car will smell. ANyway, I racked up little over 800 miles driving at 75mph and seems the smell is gone. I try to avoid traffic and twice now Ive ran into it.

Thanks

Kind of gives new meaning to "hitting the ATM on the way out of work".

"Don't panic, your car is suppposed to smell like it's burning!" isn't the most reassuring thing to hear someone say. I would expect to hear that from, say, a Daewoo dealership.
