worst part of all this...
if my box gets wrecked, what the hell am i supposed to do? they're won't be anymore original xb's for sale anymore.
then i will be screwed. especially if the new xb is more expensive. it still sorta has the same "general" shape of the 1st gen. it's gonna have to grow on me. i didn't even like the 1st gen xb when i was looking for a car. i thought it was super ugly. but the price was good, the dealer wasn't a frickin @$$hole like many other dealerships i have gone to, and i grew to like it when i sat in it. so bought one without even test driving it b/c of the dealer and the price. I THINK I'M OFF TOPIC BUT OH WELL. but yeah, they needed to change the new xb or else our car will not be unique and won't hold their value like a ford taurus or cavalier...etc. 10-4 good buddy!
Hey, considering Scion is calling this the same model, will Scion be forced to continue producing parts for this car ten years after the last 07 is sold, or ten years past the last 08 or later being sold? Is Scion obligated to keep stocking parts if the model's body has changed?
yes, scion will still be required to provide parts for your boxes for many years to come, pretty sure for about an entire decade.
also, get used to cars getting bigger and more powerful. i mean, the current corolla is bigger than the camrys of the 80's and early 90's. the 4 cyl engine in the honda accord is more power than the v6's were around 15 years ago.
for almost every generation, a car or truck gets bigger, and more powerful, but they aim to keep the msrp a from skyrocketing too outrageously because then they would alienate their own target market for the car period.
its not like the next tc will be a $30k plus sports coupe that only well established adults can afford. it will be more expensive than the current tc, but that would be mostely due to inflation and what not.
scions are for the younger generations, not for rich and priviledged. don't be afraid of change!

The xB is,was, and will be built in Japan. The first gen xB has been built in Japan only for the US market for the last year since the bB was changed. There will be no more problem getting parts than on any other car.
The parts availability thing is a complete red herring. You can still get parts of cars much older than 10 years. Walk into your local Toyota Parts Center and tell them you need an alternator for a 91 Tercel. If they don't have it in stock, they can have it in a matter of days. Try a radiator for a, 87 pickup with the turbo engine (yes, they did make them). They'll have it. Body parts may get scarce after 10 years, but that's the only place you'll run into problems.
Don't worry too much. I work with mainly aftermarket parts and I can tell you I can still get parts for cars that are 30+ years old. I don't like getting them cause I am too lazy to look through books. lol
Also think about how many other toyota's use identical parts. The window switch used on the xB are also used on about 5 other toyota models dating back at least 5-10 years. Don't worry about it. If body parts are a concern don't worry about that either. Toyota has a tendency to sell off their old presses to chinese companies. If you can find it there is a chinese car company called greatwall, they recently introduced a car called the CeBear. . . or something like that. Guess what? it's an xB with a similar front end to the xB2. Don't worry so much. Toyota has done some dumb things like other auto manufactures, but they are not as stupid to drop a car model just cause they are trying to stay hip. Worse comes to worse, go get the part you need rebuilt. It'll be cool, even cars that aren't sold too often get support, like the Cadillac Catera. If I've done my research correctly it's pretty much an Opel model for the states. Anyway, I can still get parts for it. The only car I can think of people getting screwed on was the Saab 92x, affectionately named the "Saaburu". It was a Saab based on the Subaru WRX, when GM sold their shares in Subaru support was gone. Yes GM is a major stock holder in Saab. All I can say is don't worry it's cool. We'll be fine, and if we are not I'll help raise some chaos! lol
Back to topic, yeah I agree. It'll be interesting to see what aftermarket performance parts the scion line will get, especially when the cars get changed up every three years. I suppose a good indicator is the tC. Yes it's based on a camry and avenesis, but it was new car on the market. They did get a nice list of goodies like intake, exhaust pipes, and a bunch of really cool homebrew stuff like the motorized radio door. I guess time will only tell, I do have a sneaking feeling that it will be fine though.

I think we'll be fine on that side too. Many of the SL members are great fabricators. The Sposors are great too. Just a few
Oratorio- with his front face finishers
Everyone who was involved with making anything dealing with lighting like Randode and the countless people doing LED mods, like SquallHeart
Chadfo and his gauge face inserts
That's just to name a few. As long as people are enjoying what they are doing I don't think there will be a problem.

BTW ... i was out pricing a new RS1 grill for my box and when i told the 2nd Scion parts dealer that i saw it was $898.63 he said not likely. Apparently Toyota has stopped making parts for cars just a few years after and Toyota then substitutes another part for that one that is no longer being made. He named the Camery Grill specifically that was no longer availible for sale just a couple years after the car was made.
All you guys who are paraniod that there wont be any parts availible ... you better buy up all the high milage and wrecked boxes you can, you never know.

the 2nd gen, im not so sure what they are gonna do, probably USA built.
Actually, I personally don't think there is going to be that much of a price increase on the new xb. When the first gen came out, it was unheard of for a vehicle under 15 grand to have the kind of standard features it did. I think we'll see the same thing here.

They might have had factories built with the idea of building the ne model over here. Im not sure what car you think i was talkin about, but i meant the newer xB, not sure what you mean, but hey, we have our times.
