2nd gen xB stage 2 brake kit
allright. question. I know nothing about brakes. So whats the diff between a stage 1 (i assume there is one) and the stage 2 set vs. the stock braking system. I am going to be getting new rims and tires which will be heavier. so i was thinking about upgrading my brakes. Heard lots of postive things about you guys. I just have lil knowledge of brakes. I have heard of the posi's though. i know those have a good rep.
lol.

Not really.

Stage 1:
Brake Pads: Posi pads have a slightly more aggressive composition when compared to the OEM pads. This means that you get a more of a initial bite when you first hit your brakes (assuming that they are brought up to operating temp).
Brake Lines: Are made by Technafit and are essentially a rubber hose wrapped with a steel braided hose, wrapped in a nylon sheath. The steel braided hose helps with holding in the pressure caused by your foot pressing down on the brake pedal. The nylon sheath helps prevent dust and dirt entering the steel braided line. When dirt or dust enters the brake line it can slowly cause the line to fray and eventually fail.
Brake Fluid: DOT4 fluid from motul will increase the wet and dry boiling point of the brake fluid. This helps prevent brake fade.

Brake Rotors: Come in either slotted or drilled and slotted. The theory here is that the slots and holes help wipe away the dust that collects between the pad and rotor face. The accumulation of this dust can cause a delay or fade in the response time from you hitting the brakes to the car actually stopping. There is also thought that the slots and holes are present for reducing the rotors rotational mass.
OEM:
OEM composition pads are great for street driving, but can prematurely wear or become victim to brake fade if held at high temps.
OEM Brake lines are made from rubber. When you apply force to the brake pedal the fluid in the hydraulic brake system expands and follows the brake line to the caliper piston which transfers that force to stop your car. Theatrically the rubber lines expand leaving the feel on the brake pedal inconsistent.
OEM Fluid:Has a lower dry and wet boiling point compared to a DOT 4 or 5. This helps prevent brake fade or "cooking the brakes".
OEM Brake Rotors: These rotors come from the dealer with a blank face. The OEM rotors are vented, meaning that the internal section to the rotor have veins that are intended to pull cool air from the center of the rotor to cool the rotor.

Nice accurate explanation. Posi pads, DOT4, and SS lines = big improvement over stock. Firmer pedal and more consistant braking. Cheap fix for weak stock brakes. I used stock rotors, just not enough data to support any improvement for slotted or drilled. They do look nice!
