Clunking noise?
I have a problem and its only recently been happening. I keep hearing a clunking noise coming from the passanager side of the car. I took it to the dealership and they told me that i needed struts bc one was blown and once i fixed it i thought it would stop. Boy was i wrong i just replaced them and I'm still getting that noise. i also replaced the hub assy, sway links and i still need to replace the ball joints. I only seem to get the noise when i first start from a dead stop or from a rolling start. i really dont want to replace the axles bc new are between 600-700 each, unless anyone know where to get them cheaper?

btw dealers suck sometimes
it could be a lot of things could u be more specific? it could maybe be the wheel bearings i've had those go out on me a few times..

^^ Without seeing/hearing it first hand, in my experience with FWD cars specifically, the CV joint going out is generally a fairly common issue. It can happen pre-maturely too. Say if either the inner or outer boot ties either comes off or if you get a tare in the boot itself. Then moisture & debre gets in there and can destroy it fairly fast. Other thing to look at too. If you have stock (OEM) struts and are on aftermarket lowering springs... take a look and make sure that you didnt have one of the front springs shift out of position on you. That's fairly common too, and if you catch it in time instead of ignoring it, you can usually ward off any further possible damage from that and is very easy to re-adjust the spring... that you could do yourself even if you don't have a lot of wrench time experience.
The other things mentioned in other posts are possible too... but look at each and see if one of them fits what you see under your car.
If you have lowered springs you could have to replace your cv joint.. I used to go through the passenger side one every 6 months or so..
What happens when you lower your car it makes the angle more drastic and when it spins especially when going around corners it can be hard on them..
You should turn your wheel sitting still to see if you hear it clunks.. If the boot isnt ripped or come off then you wont see goop everywhere..
You can also jack the car up and feel the play in the axle..
They can be rebuilt pretty easy.. Usually with new bearings and greese..

like i said before call and search on the internet for parts buddy, you'll find the cheaper route
my car maks all kinds of creaking/clunking noise after i dropped it/put it back to stock im sure theres something wrong with the axles but it's been fine for 2k+ miles i just turn the radio up
I have only had mine since Nov. of 2010, and I get the same noise every so often from the front passenger side. It almost sounds like spring bind, but I haven't taken it to the dealership. There is no way my shock could be blown in a matter of 2ish months. So let me know if they give you anymore info!
I have a 2008 and mine would clunk only when it was cold. i took it to my dealership multiple times and they could not figure it out. They replaced both from struts and still had the problem. Finally i took the owner of the dealership for a ride and they ended up hearing it. They called scion service rep and found out the body was flexing the strut towers enough to make them pop. They did not have enought body sealer around the strut towers. The dealership put sealer around the strut tower on the passenger side and took care of the problem.
