I tried searching...tire size/drop question
I know, another one!
Running 18X7.5 BBS RKs (+42 if I'm not mistaken) on my 2011 xB. The current tire size is 225/45-18. I really wanted to run the same tire size with a drop, but I think I'm wanting too much drop for that size tire.
205/55-16 tire diameter according to tirerack.com is 24.9
225/45-18 tire diameter according to tirerack.com is 25.9
I'm wanting to get the DF210s or Tein S-Techs, but I think I'll run into issues with fenderwell clearance. Seems like 225/40 is the popular size, which is closer to the stock diameter at 25.1.
So, am I limited to a milder drop like the TRD or NF210s? Or, do I need to go with a tire other than my first choice (Eagle RS-A)?
A pic always helps, right? Here it is at stock height with above-mentioned wheel and tire combo:

first cionide will be here soon!
2nd dump the RSA. (really ____ty annoyance) its a silly oem tire that is in fact overpriced hot garabge.
Most likely for a drop like that im gessing your going to want to go in the 215/45-18 range too i you want to be extra clear. but the 225 is solid choice from what i read.
Now you just need a new tires. those rsa's wont make it pass 12. and no mileage warranty and what not. I been through some. soooo look up other on tire rack or discounttiredirect.com (my personal fav) The falken 912's ive had and liked up till about 16k then they needed to be replaced but other hhave had much better luck with them.
Others to check from my exp. Kuhmo ecsta ASX, General UHP, Continental DWS, Goodyear Eagle GTXL (my next pick up) and if you can find them the Yokohama W4S tires are crazy dope!!
hope I helped a little.

Well, to be honest the RS-As were going to be my next purchase...the tires that are on the car now are Goodyear Eagle F1s. They have a lot of tread left but are NOISY and old. Really want to drop it with these tires on it, but I can wait until I have to get new tires if these aren't going to work for me.
I've heard good things about the RS-As...will have to research a few other tires before I make my final decision.

well let me hold my tounge. the RS-A are stock on my car. (2010) oem style. im nots ure what speed they are rated. I wasn't impressed with them on my 08 and got the 912 and was a HUGE difference. and i heard the F1s were hit and miss. but def look around on those sites and compare, compare, compare all you can. iits taken me almost 3 weeks to finally decided on the eagle GTs from all the other choices available.
I'm not going to get into the tire debate, because impressions are so subjective. Do your homework, and make an informed decision.
Now fitment... that's my game. If you like the lower drop, wait until you need new tires and get 225/40-18. A really nice compromise would be the Tein H-Techs (1.1"F/2.1"R drop). They will even out the ride height better than the DF's or the S-Tech's, and you should be fine with the 225/45-18 tires. The larger diameter tires will also fill out the tire/fender gap nicely on the H-Tech drop.
Here's a thread where you can check out how the H-Tech's look:

Keep in mind that 225/45 tires would fill out the gap another 1/2" compared to the pics in the link above.

I can answer this one with confidence. I am running the EXACT same spec wheel. I have Falken Explicit's 18x7.5 +42, I have Falken ZE912's in a 225/40-18 and I was on Sprint Springs before I bagged my car. The Sprints if i'm not mistaken are one of the lowest springs you can run at 2" all four corners and I had zero issues with clearance. The fronts rubbed a tiny bit - I involuntarily removed a single push in rivet on each side and there was a tiny bit of wear evident on the fender skirt towards the rear of the well on each front corner. Otherwise, no contact with fenders or anything scary. Oh, and I was on stock dampers with the Sprints. No worries about your fitment...
Here's mine when I had the following with zero issues.
DF210's
18x8 40 offset
225R40's
Here's a nice program I like to use also.
