For the NF210, you really do need the compressor.

Yeah, but to be honest, the TEIN springs weren't very hard to compress. I wouldn't have put my friend in any immediate danger. Also, before my contraption, I almost had it by hand, but even after I let go of the spring, it only shot up about 6". It wasn't a real dangerous project.

The stock springs were a different story though. I laid my strut down, and stood on it, loosened the bolt with a 6 foot piece of pipe attached to a ratchet, and put a piece of plywood in front to stop it from launching. The stock spring broke 2 pieces of plywood. It was pretty cool.
