Default suggestion on lowering springs

i have 19" rims on my 08 xb and looking into springs for it. i have 19x8.5 35et w/ 235/35/19 for the front and 19x9.5 40et w/ 265/30/19 in the rear i want the drop to be decent and the ride still good.

HOLY SMOKES!! Can you post some pics? With the tire/wheel/offset combo you have, you must be completely flush with the outer edge of the fenders. I would be afraid to try anything more than Eibach Pro-Kit (1"F/1.2"R drop) for fear of rubbing (and even then you still might rub).

If anybody has this extreme of a set-up, please correct me if I'm wrong.

there is a very good chance he'll rub. i'm running 18x8 +32 with a 225/40 tire on df springs and i rub big time. be easy on the drop and you'll still might need to roll some fender. good luck and post up some pics!

im runing 18*7.5 with tanabe df210 on 225/40 and i rarely rub. depends on the roads you drive. I would go the TRDs or Tanabe NF210 for 19s

Shredded tires are expensive and DANGEROUS. IMO not worth the risk, no matter how great they look. loneeagle, what size are your tires, he's running 265/30 on the rear!

so do you think that the rubbing is due to the wheel & tire size? i have trd springs and maybe getting k-sport gt pro damper system, would those help?

Wheel & tire size will always be a factor. The larger the outside diameter of the tires, along with overall tire width and wheel offset, will determine if a given suspension drop will rub or not. What size tires are you running, and what is the offset on your wheels? This will also help to know if jmaeda might rub.

TRD springs are only a 1"F/1.5"R drop, your rubbing is definitely due to the tire width and wheel offset.

I don't know if the K-Sports will help or not (no personal experience there), but I'm guessing that coryjames and/or NoLimitz will be able to give some knowledgeable input. Help him out guys.

its pretty hard to screw up a spring install if you are slightly mecahnically inclined much less work in a garage.

The spring swap is pretty straight forward. Your rear tires are almost 1" taller in overall diameter, and 1.5" wider than stock. What is the offset of your wheels? My guess is that the combination of all three has placed your tires too close to the fender lip, and resulted in the rubbing.

245/30-19 on the rear would have been about the same overall diameter as stock, but depending on the offset of your wheels, this still may not have solved the problem. The offset of your wheels is the critical question, and should yield all the answers.

I did some research, and see that the 19x8.5 come in 32, 38, and 45 offset.
The rear 19x9.5 come in 35 and 48 offset. What do you have?

it's got to be 32 in front & 35 in the back, sorry I'm not sure, this is a big help, 'gonna have my RS5 next week and I'm not sure what to do about what wheels, springs and coilovers to get for it, it would be cool if the color of the wheels match the car's color, any suggestions?

jmaeda, do your rears stick out past the fenders?

I'm thinking with 265/30-19 +40 offset that you'll probably rub with any drop.

Somebody else with 265/30-19 needs to chime in here.

By the looks of my NF210's I think I'd rub with anything larger than 245's, and I'm not even sure if they would clear.

I'm still on steelies, but I'll be going with 18x7.5 or 18x8, depending on availability of whatever I end up choosing.
Tires will be 225/45 to fill out the fenderwell openings better, and give a little more sidewall for both ride and looks.
Depending on availability, I'm planning on offset of between +42 and +45.

I won't be copying these wheels, but here's the look I'm after:

Sorry about jacking your picture again jo_maoma, but I'm making you famous!
225/45-18 on 18x7.5 with Tanabe NF210 springs.

For those who like this combo & look, keep in mind that you have to select your tires & wheels carefully;
so that you don't end up with something that weighs 10 pounds more at each corner, trashing gas mileage and acceleration.

Yes, those are NF210's.

Keep in mind that most people go with 225/40 on 18's, and these are 225/45. The 225/45's are 1" bigger in overall diameter than 225/40, and fill out the gap b/w tire and fender lip another 1/2" all the way around. The extra bit of sideway also helps with ride comfort.

Your 235/35-19 fronts should have about 1/4" more gap than these, and your 265/30-19 rears should have about 3/8" more gap. That being said, it's the overall width and offset combo that worry me. You might rub over bumps.

Eventually this will make it to every thread related to tires and wheels:

Keep in mind that the stock tires are 205/55x16" with +45 offset.
For all the NF210 info check out this thread, if you haven't already.
