17s or 18s on a white 08 xB?
I'm having trouble deciding what size wheels I want. I know I want the Sportmax 006, black w/stainless lip, but I can't decide if I should go with 17x9s or 18x8.5s. What do you guys think? Will I sacrifice a lot of ride quality by going to 18s? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I'm just a newb to XBs, but I can't understand why so many people are throwing huge rims on this small cars. Personally, I would put the 17x9s on your car. They are wider, lighter, and overall improved handling than a bigger wheel.
When going 18", you're not going to sacrifice much ride quality since you can still go with a 40 aspect. That should give plenty of height to smooth out the ride. Another reason for the 18's is that a 9" wide wheel will require just the right offset. A few millimeters in either direction could result in rubbing. The 8.5", with the appropriate tire, will have a little more clearance should the offset not be spot on.
If you're using the same width on both ends, you'll find the 9" wide rims difficult to manage. Consider a staggered fitment with 7.5" or 8" on the front with 235 and 8.5 & 245 rear.
