HELP: To LIP or not to LIP on 18's
First post, new Scion XB 2011 Super White...
I'm trying to decide on an 18" wheel and whether to go with a lip or without. Maybe you can help...
I'm thinking lip makes them look smaller but the lip looks good... On the other hand, the concave look is awesome too and the wheel looks bigger...
Can't post pics but I can link... So here it goes...
WITH LIP http://www.max514.com/ar1.jpg
WITHOUT LIP: http://www.max514.com/gt5.jpg
I'd appreciate pros and cons and offset advice...
With lip (ASA AR1): available in 18x7.5 with 38, 48, 52 offset and 18x8 with 40 offset.
Without lip (ASA GT5) : can't find specs but probably similar...
Thoughts?

The lip is all a matter of personal preference, and all that matters is what YOU like.
I'd say 18x7.5 +38 or 18x8 +40 for the AR1.
The GT5 comes in 18x8 +45, which would be fine also.

Thanks Cionide... Been staring at them for so long it's losing all meaning..I don't know which ones I prefer anymore!
Tirerack recommends 215/45-18... Is that what I should be going with?
It I went with the GT5, I'd want to accentuate the concave look. I understand it's a matter of offset?

What offset you can run w/o rubbing and tire size will also depend on what you are lowered on (springs/brand/model? coilovers? air bags?).
On a mild drop with mild offset and 7.5" or 8" wide wheels 215/45-18 would be fine to help fill out the tire/fender gap. 225/40-18 would put a little more meat on the ground, and be closer to OEM tire diameter.
On a heavy drop, offset and choosing the correct tire size become more critical to ensure no rubbing.
Pick your drop and wheels first, then we can sort out the best size tires to meet your goals.

I kinda get the point about the lip being shallow... Deep dish is definitely a distinct look but 1.5" of lip maybe trying to be something it's not...
I'd be looking at an NF210 (1.0F & 1.7R) or Tein H-Tech (1.1F - 1.6R)... I think any lower may be asking for trouble since I do drive on back roads and country roads quite a bit...
Wouldn't a 40 be less comfortable than a 45?

I have full face concave wheels and LOVE the look...imo if you cant get a lower offset wheel with a lil tire stretch to really have a noticable lip then I wouldnt do it. Again that is just my opinion...buy what you like.
I always try to suggest to people that are looking at brands like those to look at vrwheels.com to see if you like any of the used name brand high end wheels they have. I think a used high quality wheel is always better then a lower end wheel thats new but in the same price point as the used wheels. My wheels and tires were $2400...i say if you wanna play you gotta pay.
