Default Looking for a quality ride

First let me say - great site ... really enjoy searching it...

I currently have stock steelies on my 2009 stingray metallic... Time to retire them and get something nice and clean looking. Car will be used for the daily driving. 18" looks better on it IMO, but read that the quality ride suffers... true or not?

If i'll go with 18" - what's the size of the tire that would give me decent look and best possible ride?

Same question if i'll go with 17" rims...

Looking 18x7 or 17x7 rims with 35-40 offset... Stock suspension and have no plans dropping the car...

Please halp me to find the tires for the most confortable ride. Thanks in advance.

well 18" is not going to sacrifice much ride quality, a lot of cars come from the factory with 18" wheels.

Also the bigger the tire the less you'll feel

I was running 235/40R-18 on a 18x8 40offset wheels. They were great.

Thanks for the intro VonStar...

On 17x7, you'll want 225/45-17 tires (235's are a bit wide for 7" wheels).

I don't think I've ever seen 18x7 wheels, usually 18x7.5 is the narrowest, in which case I'd go with 235/40-18 to get the best ride for the offset you're looking at. (Not all manufacturers even offer 18x7.5, many start at 18x8.)

Find wheels you like first, and we can go from there.

Thanks. This site is great! So if the wheels i like are made in 17x7 and 18x8 will there be a difference in the ride? I think 18" wuld look much better, but not sure if i should worry about the ride... Also tire prices are important also...
Thanks! I'm down to 3 choices and will narrow it down tonight...

ok narrowed down to Konig Traction or Runaway 18" wheels.
Traction 18x7.5 45 offset
Runaway 18x8 35 offset

What would be the offset preference and of course what tire would you recommend. Thanks for all your help!

Yes, there will be a bit of a difference in ride quality b/w 17's and 18's, but I agree that 18's will look much better. That being said, I drive about 500 miles per week, mostly on freeways, but I still plan on going with 18's myself.

While 225/45-17 tires are cheaper than 235/40-18's, how often do you think you'll need to replace them? I'm willing to spend a little more on the tires for the bigger wheels, better look, and more meat on the road (which includes better handling due to the lower profile & more meat). Are you OK with that?

You might want to try and go to some local "meet & greets" in your area to see how you like the different looks, as well as seeing if you can ride around with some other xB2 owners with 17's and 18's to see how they feel to you.

If you know that you won't lower it. you'll be safe with 235/40-18 tires on either wheel. Personally I think you should consider dropping it on Tanabe NF210's, in which case I'd go with 235/40's on the Tractions or 225/40's on the Runaways, because of the difference in offset.

Tire recommendation depends on if you are worried about being able to fully rotate the tires at all 4 corners (non-directional tread pattern) or if you're OK with a directional tread that can be rotated front to rear and visa versa, but not rotated side to side.

Thanks! That's very helpful. No drop in the plans like i mentioned before. So 235/40-18 looks like a winner.
In re: rotating - directional tread looks like a way to go... at least for now... Will be driving in all 4 seasons... 2-3 months of snow/ice... lots of wet weather also...

If you're looking for an all-season tire, I would actually recommend an asymmetric tire that is performance oriented, but better for wet weather and snow. My 1st pick would be the Falken Ziex ZE-912:

I think it will give you exactly what you want, at the best price-point for performance vs. value. Since it can also be fully rotated, it will give you the best long-term value.

Cionide,

Thanks for all your help. Greatly appreciate it.

Just ordered 18x8 Konig Runaway with Falken tires as you suggested. Since it's a special order rims - should have them in 2 weeks or so.
