Default Motegi SP10 wheels

I'm going to be picking up a super white '08 Scion xB as soon when I sell my WRX. I was thinking about getting Motegi SP10 wheels in Hyper Black for it with Kumho Ecsta SPT tires. The wheel size would be 18x8 with +40mm offset and the tire size would be 215/45-18. Does that sound like a decent setup? My budget is limited to $1300. I don't want to lose much ride quality and I don't want the wheels to affect the gas mileage much, if at all. I don't want the xB to look silly either. The wheels weigh only 19 lbs which is part of the reason why I chose them. I'd rather have longer lasting all season tires but I can't find any for that size wheel. Here's a pic of the wheels.

18x8 and a 215 is kinda streching it. if you can fit a 225 i'd go with a 225/40/18 and a 225/35/18 if you want em real low pro

I don't really know what size tires I can use. I just know that tirerack.com recommended that size. I want the car to be as compliant as possible over bumps while still looking better than stock.

For 18x8 wheels I would go with either 225/40 or 235/40 tires. I like 225's on 7.5" wide wheels and 235's on 8" wide wheels, but that's just me.

I think the tire and wheel calculator we all use will help you understand how the changes from stock may or may not work, and what the resultant changes will be:

http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp?postId=906

Keep in mind that the stock wheels are 16"x6.5" with +45 offset, and the tires are 205/55x16".
Stock weight is approximately 22# for tire and 22# for steelie = about 44# total at each corner.

Have fun playing with the calculator/comparer!

For better looks, ride, handling, and safety, put on a set of Tanabe NF210 springs also:

In some instances i think 235/40 is actually cheaper than 225/40.

215 will fit. The profile of the tire will change depending on the width of the wheel. A wider tire will have a more square profile and a narrower tire will have a more rounded profile. My old set were 215 on 8 and mt new set is 215 on 7. The 215 on 7 just look more substantial because the sidewall is more vertical. I hope that makes sense. Again, those wheels are gonna look sweet on a super white xB.

this is partially ture. a P metric tire will give you a squared off edge and actually make the tire appear a little wider. vs a more aggresive tire like flaken 116's or Bfg's that will give you the race tire look

How is it partially true? What part isn't true?

from Dunlop's website:
P PASSENGER (P-METRIC/NON-P-METRIC)
This indicates a passenger car tire. If the first character in the size designation is a "P," the tire is a "P-Metric" tire and is engineered to standards set by the T&RA. If there is no "P", the tire is engineered to ETRTO standards and is a metric tire. The standards set by T&RA and ETRTO have evolved together and are virtually interchangeable.

So all these tire recommendations you guys have made would fit that wheel? Any recommendations for certain tires? Aside from the Kumho's, I'm looking at General Tire Exclaim UHP's and still searching for decent tires preferably under $125 each.

Yes, and you will find that the vast majority of people running 18x8 use 225/40 tires.

k, thx. Lowering the car isn't really an option. The roads here are too messed up. I've scraped the front of my WRX a few times and according to websites, the Scion xB is half an inch lower than the WRX is.

If you want a little more ground clearance, and a bit more sidewall for comfort, you can run 225/45-18 tires. No rubbing at all, and you'll get almost a 1/2" of additional ground clearance, as well as riding better, and filling in some of that huge gap between the tires and fenders on the stock suspension. If your roads are that messed up, I strongly suggest the 225/45's. I plan on running them when I get 18's, and my roads are fine.

If you ever do decide to lower it a little in the future, 225/45's clear the fenders with Eibach Pro Kit, TRD, and Tanabe NF210 springs.

Thanks for the help everyone. I really appreciate it. Now I have to ask other questions in different areas of this messageboard.

if you are concerned about ride height, i only lowered the rear of my xB using the rear springs from a 1st generation xB. this only lowered the rear end of the car a bit so that it doesn't looked "jacked up" anymore.
