I got new wheels the other day. I was really thinking about going with axis wheels but I just couldn't justify spending that much. They are so close to Mackin or Work wheels I'd almost rather have those for the price. This whole wheel decision thing has been tough...

So I stopped by the local Discount/America's tire and they had these - Enkei J10 wheels. I was leaning towards these already because of cost. I had already photchopped them on and liked what I mocked up, so I knew what I was getting into as well. They are also considerably lighter than anything else I was considering (19/20lb) so I am real close to the stock weight of the original wheels/tires even with the plus 2 sizing. That was kinda of important to me. I had a GMC Sierra prior to this with oversized wheels and tires and it really made the truck a pig (even with a 6L V8!) I wanted to avoid doing that again at all costs...

What really sold me was I got a smokin' deal on them. They had misadvertised them in the floor room for $100 and are normally $160-170/ea. They were willing to honor the price and I couldn't pass that up, so I went with them.

They show a little more brakes than I would like, but I think they make the car look clean. I hope everyone likes them.

They are an 18x7.5 wheel with a 38 offset. This puts them essentially flush with the wheel well. Any more and I think I would have regretted it with all the crap sprayed up the side of the car.

I went with BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Tires 225/40/18. Really nice tires. The ride and handling is tremendously better. Little more tire noise than stock, but nothing too bad.

Thanks Roxor! I really appreciate the kind words. Seeing your Axis Decades was tough...they look so good! I was actually considering the Wide Tracks as something similar but different.

Yeah when I saw the price, I had to just say yeah, too good of a deal.

I should also mention that my XB is also lowered with TRD Springs, in case anyone is trying to get a feel for a "look".

Those would look nice if the rotor wasn't all rusted looking. Other then that your car looks great.

 

Actual brake usage is way over rated. Think how much longer the pads last if you never use them.

 

It totally must have been the flash and or the angle I took that picture, because I don't have that much rust visible on the rotors. I went back out and snapped another picture (see above).

Really weird, the flash must have reflected off the surface funny.

 

I just assumed you had washed it and let it set over night or something.
You will get surface rust on the rotors that way until you drive it once. Then you are good again until next wash or rain.

 

I think they look great. The cost and weight of them... you had to! Congrats, looks clean.

mikemann, do you think a 35 offset would be too far out? Same size rim, just 35 offset...

 

Depends. On an 7.5" rim? If so, then it should be fine, there is actually a guy here with some sportmax rims I believe that has 35mm offset on an 18x7.5 rim. He feels like it is very flush and very happy with fitment. I think that would be my threshold though personally. Anything more and I wouldn't be happy with how much the extended out and it seems like your car would be a mess from the fronts.

To give you an idea too, the other very popular size in 18"s is the 18x8 with a 40mm offset. Randode and a few others are running those.

a 7.5 rim with a 35mm offset is 1mm less than an 8 rim with a 40mm offset.

So you should good to go.
