Default R1 racing "drift" with B&G drop? how is this

18X8
40 offset

5x100/114.3
3.25" lip
73.1 hub bore

I'm looking into these wheels. Looking to see what kinda detailed fitment you would expect with this offset. Also I will probably be on a B&G drop. I've thought of 225/40/18's have considered 235/40's though. Curious about rubbing issues? Also how would a 225 on an 8" look. I personally do not want ANY "strech" look. I was wanting more of a flush look on the rim/tire.

well your opinions would help. I still haven't found a really solid dealer for these wheels, let alone find many people who have them. so that's a bit disappointing.
thanks

I would think that 8" might be OK, if not slightly stretched. 225mm is 8.9 inches. This is at the widest point of the tire (the baloon part, if that makes sense). Double check with the guru ...CIONIDE???

I've seen those rims too and I like them. Have you found out how much they weigh by any chance?

I've done some searching and well I'm pretty disappointed in a really solid weight number and how much they "supposedly" weigh. One place said 26lbs, one place said shipping weight was 27lbs, One R1 Racing location said 26lbs before I told him the width I wanted and the other said uhh somewhere between 20-25lbs, LOL. I'm thinking I've got it pretty close, wish they were about 5lbs lighter.

And I understand what your saying about the balloon of the tire. I've been kinda waiting to see the guru pop up.

thanks for your feedback, and opinion.

Cool. 20-21 lbs is going to be hard to come by for reasonable $. The lightest I've seen is something like 23-23.5 lbs for under $200 a rim. XXR 518s are cheap and
pretty light but they have a like or or hate it look. I think they'd cool powdercoated hypersilver.

I really liked this wheel, but I just wish they worked in a lip. And they don't make it in hypersilver. Just silver. It weighs 23lbs.

I've seen a few others that are reasonable but not quiet what I was looking for that weighed around 19lbs.

either way, You can't always get everything you wanted in things. I should become a wheel designer and manufacture. LOL,

Here's a thread with 18x8 +35 offset wheels, 225/40-18 tires, and the full Hotchkis TVS kit. He rubs a bit when pushing it in turns.
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=251170

With the lower front drop of the BG springs, even with the +40 offset you listed above, I would expect some rubbing with 235/40 tires. You could always roll the fenders to solve that problem.

Personally I think 235's look best on 8" wide wheels, and 225's look better on 7.5" wide wheels. To get a first-hand view, check out a Lexus or Mazda dealership; IIRC the IS250/350 front and RX-8 both run 18x8 wheels with 225 tires as OEM.

thanks for the reply's I researched and found the upper end wheel that this is a replica of, and well it was around 7-800 a wheel sooooo, yeah that's out of the question.

CIONIDE, thanks for all the information, what is the recommended way to roll fenders on these cars? Is it the outside fender that we are rolling? On my other car, we have to beat in the inner quarter panel (sort of the trunk area) which is no big deal. But if it were the painted outer panel, im not to sure of that. Also we don't run the car hard, we have another car for that, but I can't guarantee I won't hit a speed bump here and there.

What do you think of the fitment as far as 8" with 40 offset. How will this fit with the fender/quarter?

I think I will go check out the dealership to see the 225 on an 8" I've been looking around a lot lately but rims don't say "I'm 8"'s wide" on the outside LOL.

Here's info on fender rolling:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=233381
Look at my post in that thread, with the info from NoLimitz, and also the DIY link at the bottom of my post.

18x8 with +40 offset is fine; allowable tire width w/o rubbing is determined by the drop. If you don't want to roll the fenders or rub with the B&G springs, I recommend 225/40-18 tires.
