I'm sure everyone reading this forum has at one point gotten some great advice from Cionide be it directly or indirectly. I've read countless posts from tons of people who have benefited from each other. Personally, I've just installed my wheels and tires (18x7.5 - 225/40/18 on Maxxim Deadlines +45 offset --- General Exclaim UHP), and I couldn't have done it without the help of this forum. Thanks Cionide for the advice you've given to us all. I'm still waiting on my TRD center cap emblems from Thailand, after which I will hopefully post a few pics.
A few thoughts to help those still with stockies...
1. 18" rims with TRD drop. I wish I went a touch lower, but the ride for a daily driver (90 miles/day) is excellent. Been riding w/ TRD springs for 28,000 miles, and finally got rims. More comfortable, noticably smoother w/ bigger tire/wheels. Not sure why, maybe since tires are new? I was expecting a harsher ride, but somehow not the case.
2. In one post, you (Cionide) said you'd go with 225/45/18 for your personal setup because ride quality and wheel gap. I wouldn't bother. 40 aspect ratio is just fine for DD, especially since you're on NFs. The wheel gap isn't too bad, and depending on the tire, there is NO DETRIMENT to ride quality. I think it's actually better.
3. The car handles much sharper. I was thinking about the rear sway, but don't think I'll need it anymore. Wheels and tires make a huge difference. Much more stable with less roll. I don't drive like a maniac, but I don't baby it either. Took it to Angeles Crest Highway, and couldn't be happier.
4. General Exclaim UHP tires are fantastic, with great grip, VERY smooth ride, but a decent increase in road noise on concrete highways above 65mph. Not sure if it's because of the low profile, or just me listening extra hard since it's a new setup.

One of these days I'm going to have to put some new tires & wheels on my own xB.

 

I'm waiting on a few small details before I take some pics. TRD center caps from Thailand and valve caps which America's Tire forgot to put on. Then, I've got to figure out how to post pics. *Another point...my windshield cracked, and after Toyota said they wouldn't help me, I contacted Scion customer service. I explained how there is tons of info about xb windshields cracking online, and after some back and forth phone calls, they finally agreed to replace it for free under good will. I do, however, own and have owned several Toyotas and a Lexus, which they seemed to like.
Oh, Cionide, I was also going to wait until my OEM tires ran out, but after getting the wheels for a great deal, I got too impatient. I'm glad I did.

coryjames - You're included in the thank you's my friend. I wish I could do some of the stuff you did to your engine, suspension, wheels, etc, but it's a way too much for a dude like me. It seems like you push it a little harder than me. I'm a little more middle of the road. Besides, gotta feed the kids, or feed the box - dig?

Props out to CIONIDE. He's always helpful. I admire how he goes out of his way to help those who can't help themselves. That takes a certain amount of tolerance that many do not have, including myself (most of the time).

As long as it's the 19x8.5 +45 offset, you should be fine with the 235/35's on the Hotchkis drop.

I like the FK-452's a lot, and may end up with them myself. Get the wheels from NL, but get the tires from tires-easy.com for $125 each instead of $183:

You'll have to pay a local shop for the mounting & balancing, but you'll also be able to get your TPMS sensors swapped into the new set-up. That $232 tire savings will go along way toward paying for the shipping & the mount/balance.

 

I have a feeling ill be fine just getting everything from wheelnext...im ordering them right now $1,994 mounted and everything....shipped too.. and with Nexen 3000..
