Default Traction Control

Does anyone know what actually sets it off? I can turn a corner sometimes and the lights will just come on. I am curious if any one actually knows what sets the sensors off. I have heard it was the TPS. Well that can not be, since I do not have them.

Ok, well the light comes on for traction control or for stability control activation.

Traction control is activated by comparing the speeds of the front tires to the speeds of the rear tires...if one or both of the fronts are spinning faster, it cuts engine power.

Stability control is actuated by several sensors, including the wheel speed sensors, a couple yaw sensors, and a steering wheel angle sensor. If it detects a direction of travel different from the angle of the tires (understeer/oversteer), it activates individual brakes to bring the car back in line. This is probably why you are getting the light.

I bet it is because I am running a different steering wheel then. I have the big gyro that goes around the steering wheel plugged in and just under the dash. Maybe that is what is causing it to go off premature. For example. This morning again. Pull into a parking lot, doing about 5 mph and the damn thing goes off again. not braking hard, or hauling butt or anything. I bet it has to do with the gyro that I have just wedged under the dash. I might have to try and stand it upright and see if that is what it is.

That probably is not the gyro, it is probably the steering wheel angle sensor. The gyros are reporting different directions of travel than the sensor is indicating. You could suffer some dangerous system interference due to that, I suggest you put your stock wheel back on. Also, removing an airbag from a vehicle equipped with one is illegal in most states (all?) and very dangerous.

Sorry, but not putting the wheel back on. Thanks for the help on the sensor. I am going to reangle the sensor that goes up around the steering wheel stem. Other then that. I guess I will just deal with the light coming on once in a while.

I did the same set up on the tC and didnt have that issue at all. But it didnt turn on the lights when I took the wheel out though. So it must have a different sensor in the steering wheel. I will mess with it some more and see what I can come up with.
