Default Wheel fitting

I finally decided on some wheels for my xB2. I am ordering the Motegi SP10 wheels with the Matte Black finish. I can't decide on one thing and need help.

I was originally planning on the 17x7's, but now I am considering 18x8's... The 17s and 18s both have a 40mm offset. I was just wondering, will the 18's fit without rubbing? I figured the best tire size would be 225/40/18 (less than 1/2 inch larger than stock)??

How much more will the 17" wheels stick out over stock? Since the 18x8's are 1 inch wider than the 17x7's, does that mean they will stick out 1" more? Any idea how it will look?

I bet Cionide will come to the rescue on this question =).

BTW, the Moetgi SP10's come in Matte Black; however, the drum of the wheel is silver... I want them all black and have planned to have them powder coated in matte black so there is no silver. A reputable powder coat shop told me $30 a wheel--I thought that sounded like a good price... Is there any reason that I should worry about powder coating the wheels? Will they get chipped/scratched up very fast?

Thanks!

Sweet, thanks for the quick response. I forgot to mention suspension. My xb has TRD springs with oem shocks... That will still work with the wheel/tire size, right? I've been thinking it might be worth an extra couple hundred to get 18's...

Here's the calculator/comparer:

Def. go with the 18's, 17's still look too small, and those SP10's are only 19 lbs each in the 18's, and only about $100 more for all four wheels.

Also will work fine with TRD springs.

I have another type of wheel, but the width, diameter, offset, and tire size are IDENTICAL to your 18X8s. My car is lowered much more than yours will be, and I do not rub.
