Default Correct Color Match for Super White 040???

Wife scraped up the front bumper on our '08 xD. Had a new bumper sprayed at a local paint shop with 040 Super White. Man the color match is not even close.
Then I see now that there is a Super White II same code 040. I'm wondering if that is the correct color. Can anybody help me out here?

Bob

Actually there are 3 variations to super white. On my super white XD the paint on the bunpers doesn't match the paint on the rest of the car 100%. I would recommend going to a paint shop that can search for your car by VIN number to see exactly which 040 paint is on your vehicle. I have found that super white is a very difficult color to match 100%. Good luck

The paint code for super white is 040. However with any part that is painted after delivery may need to be adjusted to match your paint (due to fading or oxidation)

Thats exactly what i did. Went to the paint shop. There are no less then 12 variables of Super White. I left my old bumper plus my VIN so I'm hoping the match will be a good one. I got some aluminum mesh grills for all four openings. I will post pics when completed.

Thanks for the input

Well my point is still if they paint it to the same tint of super white when the car was delivered, it will still be a little off due to "age". If this is for insurance work, I would say leave the car with them so they can match properly, and get a rental.

yea, due to oxidation they will need to blend the paint to the rest of the car. its really no biggie and its what a body shop has to do every day

Whist on the subject of paint does anyone know if there is a number for the hot lava that is available? Would it be the same as the RS xB's hot lava?

the thing about the hot lava paint, is that there is no exact paint match for it. It is a 3 stage paint. There is an orange base coat, a clear coat with pearl in it, and then the clear coat.

Depending on how much clear w/ pearl you add will determine on how light or dark the paint will come out when it dries.

When i had to order touch up paint for my RS3.0 tC with the blizzard pearl 3 stage paint, i wound up spending $87 on 3 paint pens. it sucked! I imagine the Hot Lava paint is the same way

Two things come to mind here.

First the bumper and the rest of the car. Bumper is plastic and the hood, fenders are metal as we know. The way they are painted and treated during the process are not the same and cause a painting nightmare to match for colors such as white or Silver.

Due from time, oxidation and flex agents used... having an example of the shade off your car is the best way to match it up.

Second almost ALL japanese white paints are yellow tinted base. With that being said and the front bumper taking all the pounding of dust, dirt etc over time the front bumper will discolor at a faster rate and time ie turns yellowish faster than the rest of the car. I've seen white on a xD in 6 months start turning yellowish on the front bumper here in the desert of Sun and Dust.

Europeans White cars are blue tint based.

So did they paint the whole bumper or just blend it?

Another important number off the car is the date it was built. I've seen 0202 change formula's codes 4 times in one year before. Due to supply demand of the ingredients.

Bumpers back and on the car. The body shop ended up painting it twice because the first attempt wasn't even close. It now looks about as good as you can expect. I have always been a fan of white cars but me tinks next time around I will opt for a different color. Have always stayed away from metallics for the same reason of poorly matched paint. I guess that leaves black...LOL! I will post pics if it ever stops raining!

hmm...the iSt is actually with 070 (pearl white)... it has some sparkle/metallic gloss on close look... think that will be even harder to match!....

is it true that white paints (on cars) will turn a yellow tinge after some time??....

I had a '91 super white celica GT. I got it in 00 and only owned it til early 02. I remember the white paint on that car held up pretty good. I had used a super white color match can of touch up spray to paint my interior moldings and didnt really notice all that much yellowing on the body when compared to the freshly painted interior touch up stuff, althought i do think that the plastic panels seemed to yellow a bit more.

Its such a crappy answer to say "it depends" but paint on some cars lasts and some don't. My celi's paint seemed to hold up over time for the most part. I'd be skeptical about anyone being able to notice yellowing already on any age xD, BUT ya never know and..."it depends". how often do you wash/wax? what brand? is your car ourside 24/7? do you have a garage? do you drive in harsh winterclimates? how much sun does your area get? i could go on all day with variables that could affect paint.
