Default HID Installation help!!

Okay.. I'm a newb when it comes to HIDs, and I'm sorry if these questions have been addressed, but I haven't been able to find more information and I could use some advice. I decided it was time to install a set considering I hate how dim our stockies are... I got my set today, but when I went to do the install I couldn't figure everything out! Now, I'm pretty mechanically-inclined, but I have a few questions...

1) The rubber boot on the headlamp. How do you take that off? I unplugged the power plug, pulled off the boot, released the clip, and the whole bulb/clip/boot came out together...

2) Where have you guys mounted the ballasts? Our engine compartment is sooo small...

3) I hooked up one side as instructed and decided to test out the kit to make sure everything worked and nothing happened. The headlight on the other side came on (still stock) but I didn't get so much as a flicker from the HID side... I'm wondering if I plugged it all together right? I plugged black into black and figured that was correct. Check the pic below...

1) you should be able to stretch the boot over w/e's in the way (i changed out my lights a LONG time ago, so im a little foggy on whats blocking it) but once the bulb is out of place, the only thing that should be in the way is the connector, so just try stretching it over that. should come off fairly easily. (unless you mean how does it come off the housing, you simply just pop it off, doesn't take my effort..mine came right off when i pulled it).

2) A friend an I installed HID's on an 08 Camry, and we had just as much trouble figuring out a place to put the ballast. My best suggestion is to mount it to the shock tower somehow, maybe some high grade double sided tape. either that or drill into the top of the fuse box and use some short/small nuts and bolts to bolt it on. that was my idea for the camry as well, but my friend opted not to do it lol

3) your guess is as good as mine...what you've done looks right, but only because it seems that it fits in perfectly. lol. make sure your balast is connected properly and try again. sry i couldnt be of more help on that

1. Just twist and tug and the rubber boot, it should come off.

2. Its up to you.

3. Grab a voltmeter and measure for the 12volt on your stock harness plug . Make the necessary wire change on the HID plug to match that of your stock plug.

Hope this helps.

Sounds good. I'll have more time to really get in there this weekend, plus I'll have a garage to work in... We'll see!

I recently bought a H4/9003 HID kit but I'm having problem with the metal clip that holds the bulb. Have you guys configure this?

I'm thinking of just taking out the headlight assembly, how hard is it?

Need your opinions. Thanks

Pat

to take out the housing you have to remove the bumper and then undo 3 bolts. honestly, with all the trouble of the metal clip, i think its worth it to spend 2 minutes taking off the bumper rather than 40 minutes making sure youve fastened/unfastened the clip properly. thats what i did when i replaced my bulbs.

i had the same problem with my bulbs and it turned out that the metal clips where placed in the wrong spots in the little plug. i moved them around and it turned on no problem.

i mounted my ballast in my fenders on top of the plastic lining. if u look in your engin bay you can see right into ur fenders and there is a round flat spot on the plastic lining.

if u have questions or dont know what im talkin about let me know and ill post pics.

I mounted my ballast to the headlights themselves, but I like the behind the bumper picture that was posted above... I think I will change that to help clean up the engine bay a little...
