Default 2ZZGE Engine Swap

This motor once came in the 2002-2003 Celica GT-S and I'm told there are tons of performance parts, turbos, supercharger option out there for it, and that it would fit in our car with only minor modification (though I'm sure that is pretty subjective).

Thoughts?

Right you are! Was doing some Internet research to prepare for my appointment with JE Import Performance on Saturday. Also sent emails to about a dozen importers of JDM spec engines asking about availability and price. I think we're after the 2000-2003 Celica GT-S motor and since mine is auto, I'm looking for one with the Tiptronic auto trans.

Also discovered that the US spec 2ZZ-GE was detuned from an 8200 redline to 7800 in late 2003 but that JDM versions remain tuned at the higher rpm. Then again, not sure it really matters much since I want to boost and thus would want to lower compression anyway.

Jonathan, can you tell us about your swap? Did our stock accessories work with it? Cost? Where did you get your motor? Did you change the trans? Exhaust modifications, engine mounts, are you boosted, etc.

Holy crap, that must have cost a boatload. Thanks for the pic and the info.

I did find a JDM spec 2ZZGE with Tiptronic trans for about $1700 delivered. Not bad until you figure how much labor and parts would cost to get it built, turbo'd, installed, and tuned. Don't get me wrong, I love our little xD but I'm not willing to spend that kind of scratch on a fwd. In fact I've set aside a tidy sum for mods for a BMW 135m that will be available this coming spring. Meanwhile, I may just finish out my exhaust with those Weapon-R headers (if they exist), a custom intake, wet-nitrous, and bigger injectors.
