Angry Cranks, Doesn't Start

All of a sudden Sunday morning my husband went to move the xD and it cranked, but wouldn't start. Never had a stall, never had a previous start problem. After some searching here and elsewhere I'm inclined to believe the fuel pump is the issue.

After calling around for some quotes one mechanic calls back to let me know that the fuel pump for my car is not available at all through his suppliers, or even the local dealership, which to him indicates a lot of these are being replaced. I called a few dealers and they weren't able to locate any--one said the part was on indefinite back order and that there is no guarantee it'll arrive any time soon. Plus I would have to pay for it up front. The dealers averaged $350 for the pump, plus two harnesses $10-20 each.

Meanwhile I ordered a used one on eBay, because I can't see dropping $350 on a part that might eventually come in.

I'm honestly not sure at this point if I'm venting or trying to have a discussion. I'm just ____ed about being told to spend that much on something the dealer doesn't think they'll be getting anytime soon.

Sorry to hear about the fuel pump, Sere!

Give Scion Customer Experience a call at 866-707-2466 to express your concern with the part ETA provided by the dealer. Scion representatives can try to see what they can do about the part delay.

A car I owned a long time ago had the same issue, but it was only a severely clogged fuel filter. The pump was fine though.

I would make sure to have the entire fuel system and the air filter inspected when it's taken in, just to be safe. Best of luck to you.
