Need help with my 2008 Scion xD-Engine Noise..
Hey I'm new here and have a question about my 2008 Scion xD. It runs great. Just bought it from a used car dealer with 151k miles. 5 speed manual. Like I said car runs great. Does have an exhaust leak but my problem recently is it has a weird noise when idling.
The car runs fine when accelerating it just has a weird noise when idling. It doesn't surge rpms or anything but it's just a weird noise that's starting to concern me. I'm going to change the plugs but anyone else experience this or know anything more about it and can let me know that would be great.

Hi Kyle1, I'm guessing the noise is the water pump pulley. A lot of the 08's came with poorly made water pump pulley. I have that noise too and it only happens during idle, it's like a rotating grinding noise during idle.

Oh, damn- that's what I signed up on this board to find out about!
Yeah, my fiancee's '08 xD makes a similar noise- it sounds like noisy valve train clatter coming from the passenger side of the engine.
I've also heard issues regarding the timing chain tensioner. Would it be worth replacing both at once?
