New here but needing Alternator help..
Hi everyone, I’m here cause my GF's car is a 2008 Scion xD. Her alternators going out and everyone around us is being outrageously priced, and there’s no decent videos on YouTube on how to change one out. Has anyone ever done it and how easy is it and the mounting bracket by the adjustable tensioner bolt is it OK to loosen to get out of the way to finish the work? Or is that a bad idea? To me it looks like a motor mount with some sort of fluid inside, I know it’s not a shock etc but I do t want to mess with it if it’ll be more heartache down the road than letting a mechanic do it. From what I can tell the alt seems pretty self explanatory to get undone but I’m just unsure cause I’ve never replaced one on a Scion. I have on a Dodge Caliber which was like a 3 day-3 pairs of hands job, aka a complete _____ lol. But if anyone’s got any insight for me please let me know. We aren’t wanting to have to fork out $569 to get it done.

I did mine a few years ago. I recall it was pretty standard alt job, and required some creative handling to get out. I will make a video if I do it again but it looks like I may be selling mine soon.
Hope you got yours done, its not 600$ difficult.
