wow, impact gun wont take pulley bolt off, and the alt wont slide to loosen belt, even after loosening tension bolt.

you can get a 550lb impact for like 70 bucks at home depot (and its useful for a lot of other things). or you can probably pay 200 for a mechanic to put it on.

pulley is on! started it up and took it around the block. fairly noticeable difference in 1st and 2nd gear, and the shifting seems a lot smoother between all gears, especially when downshifting because the engine matches its rpms better with less rotating mass. no difference in any accessories from what i can tell, but i havent thrown the AC on yet because its snowing a little now. i dont expect any difference though.

i also noticed that when i shift at lower rpms, i get more popping and whatnot from my exhaust. i like it.

all in all, its the same kind of benefit you get from the SSK, making your car that much more fun to drive (and you do get a little stronger pull in 1st and 2nd). a must have!

you mentioned it was snowing so do you think due to the cold weather the 250 ft lb wrench might not have worked??

probably not... it wasnt THAT cold in my garage. and it is still in the high 30s outside. i dont know if common outdoor temps have an effect on air tools do they? the air gets heated up anyway when its compressed, and chilled again when its used in the tool. im pretty sure it was just a weak impact wrench. that same wrench had trouble taking lug nuts off.

yes, but you do have to tighten down the tension bolt quite a bit further than stock. when you loosen the alternator to loosen the belt, make sure you loosen both bolts on the tensioner assembly (one bolt actually moves the alt fore and aft, the other is located right underneath it, which lets it move). you are also going to want a block of wood/rubber mallet to help coax it to move if it puts up a fight.

i used lineman pliers to get the alt to move, grabbed the top of the bolt and the adjuster and squeezed it along. as for belt tension, maybe someone here has a e-copy of the TO for the xd and can check the specs. i know on my old chevy you put a ruler to the belt, if it flexed more than 1& 1/4 inches, it was too loose. i went with about the same play on this belt, but when i whomped it in first at the stop sign, thought i smelled smoking belt... may need to go tighter...couldn't figure out how to torque it down to 140, as i couldnt get the damn thing to hold still. jambed a screwstick in the brake rotor to stop it from turning, but belt was streching. so i threw the 275 ft lb impact on it that i barely was able to get it off with and cranked it down. hope it holds tight till i figure a was to hold the pulley tight.

According to the xD technical manual the deflection is 7.5 to 8.0 mm for a new belt or 8.0 to 10.0 mm for a used belt. You check it at the mid point of the belt up and away from the air conditioner pulley.

Oh and the cranks shaft pulley nut is to be torqued to 140 ft lbs. I personally would use some good loctite on this as well, you don't want it coming loose.
