Default Oil Filter Housing Need Replacing???

I just recently purchased a used 08 Scion xD in March of this year. I got the oil changed today and the gentleman at the shop told me that I needed to replace the oil filter housing, saying that it was stripped and 'needed replacing badly'. My car has roughly 63,000 miles on it. It does not leak oil, I haven't had any problems with the engine; it drives perfectly fine. Anyway he told me that if I didn't get it replaced that it has the potential to stop oil flow to the engine and that my engine could blow up while I was driving it. It will cost $100+ to replace it and I really hate dealing with Toyota/Scion dealerships. Wondering if I have any other options or what exactly will happen if I don't replace it (at least not soon). I just spent $850 at the dealership last month getting my ABS fixed and am not looking to spend butt loads of money each month on my 'new' car.

Personally. Ii wld just go back where you bought ur car.. idk what warranty you have but I'm assuming you should have 6 months. You had problems with your abs? Unless its something you did to ur car. Ii wld have them take care of that free of charge.

Oil Filter Housing Need Replacing???

The Oil Filter housing is a bakelite cap and I would find it EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that it would be "stripped" If it were so bad, it would not be able to be put on, without oil still leaking out. I think they're trying the low blinker fluid tactic on this owner. I think it would surely crack apart before getting "stripped". I think that is simply and plainly Bullshixt ! Let alone the $100+ pricetag..... Sadd man,.... Sadddddd

The shop I get my oil changed at told me that my cap would need to be replaced too, saying it was stripped or worn , but that there was no danger of oil leaking. They said they would replace it for free too. I think the shop is yanking your chain. Your car will not blow up.

You can buy the plastic cap at Oriley's for $42. The stripped part may be the flat sides outside that the wrench grabs.
