Does any one know if the spark plugs from the other 08 Toyota 1.8L motors will work in the xD. This may sound like a silly questions but after briefly looking online, they seems have differnt part #'s.

I would like to through in some E3's.

throwing in spark plugs from any 1.8L may not be the best idea...but if you can find anything from the 2zr it should work fine (i.e. toyota yaris, matrix, etc.) but if youre looking for newer "better igniting" spark plug with the super iridium tip etc, then don't bother. when it comes to spark plugs on a stock motor youre best off with the OEM product, toyota knows whats good for our engine, so stick with that.

If I read correctly in the sales info on the website, and in the printed brochure our cars already have iridium spark plugs from the factory. I could be wrong though...

 

i believe i remember reading that as well at the dealership somewhere.

 

definitely could be true, i dont know for sure thoguh, but my main point was not to buy into those "SAVE MPG WITH THESE BETTER SPARK PLUG" companies. any company who specifically notes an "increase in powerband efficiency and/or mpg" through spark plugs is pretty much bs...as i said, OEM products are best when it comes to this.

 

I agree, in fact I've had non OEM spark plugs make my gas mileage and performance worse on some vehicles.

 

that's no surprise at all to me, because many of those "brand name" sparks aren't tested to the temp's/sparking requirements of each and every car, and can become extremely corroded and/or gunked up...which as you can imagine, would hinder your performance greatly..

 

Not sure about the xD, but the Yaris comes factory eqquiped with Denso or NGK Iridiums.

So there is not much room for improvement in this area...


Those are some of the best plugs out there.

 

Im pretty sure that most toyota's come with NGK now..haven't heard too much about Denso but I agree, iridium is often seen now (i just used iridium as an example because thats what alot of these companies try and persuade people with is there "super efficient x-metal tipped plug)

 

They come stock with Desnso plugs... I was looking to put some NGK plugs that were a step warmer in the xD but I can't find a stock match that NGK has with Denso...

 

ah interesting. honestly though it really wouldnt help much to upgrade your spark plugs. as long as youre running stock, our sparks plugs are more than efficient to get the job done. even with minimal mods (intake/headers/manifolds/etc.) theres no need to really upgrade the sparks. but..if it makes you feel any better then i guess get some? good luck finding a set that fits! let us know if you find any

 

are upgrading the wires just a waste too? (in terms of power) i know upgraded wires might look better.

 

if you really want to go with a hotter running spark then running a matching gauge wire might be recommended but honestly your stock spark set up is the best and most reliable. messing with anything else is a waste of time, money, and could leave residue in the combustion chamber if it doesn't burn properly. i wouldnt risk it.

 

What wires are you going to upgrade?

Have you ever looked under the engine cover?

its okay. you can still style up the engine with better vacuum lines (if thats what you were going for with the wires). But none the less, i still wouldnt suggest upgrading the sparkers if youre looking for a "higher performing model". just my rule of thumb though
