"Whining" or Buzzing When Starting 2010 Scion xD Hatchback
Hello:
I'm new to this forum and wanted to see if anyone had experienced this issue or had any ideas.
I have a very reliable 2010 Scion xD hatchback. Going to hit 90,000 miles soon.
I have noticed in the last few days (I don't drive it daily since unemployed from COVID) that turning the key, a high-pitched whining noise emanates from the rear of the vehicle.
To be clear, this isn't a wheel, bearing, or transmission issue, as the car is in Park and Idle.
The noise ceases once the car is driven for a mile or so and the engine warms and the fuel is flowing.
My research indicates this might be:
1) Improperly grounded battery cable causing the ECM to "whine or buzz"
2) Indication that fuel filter/fuel pump is clogged and straining to prime fuel from gas tank
3) Early warning that fuel pump is failing.
I am DIY when possible and I have seen at least one video with the removal of rear seat and replacement of unit doesn't seem impossible with care and caution, and that you don't have to drop the tank,
I already have successfully replaced a damaged oil pan. Counter-checked this with a manual.
I am dealing with finishing a roof repair, and for now, I would hope that maybe some Lucas fuel oil treatment or Marvel Mystery with a full tank might get me by, and I do have AAA fif the pump failed.
Also, I live in Florida and it's starting to get very hot, so I don't know if it's also weather-related.
Last question: Is a used unit that is functional, pulled from other Scions (like on eBay) a good substitute?
There seem to be expensive electric, and "standard" (plastic with float plugs, etc) fuel pump replacements, like ones made by Spectra, but I heard these are unreliable.
Did Scion make two specific types for manufacturing runs of the xD in those years? My manual only has removal and installation for the cheaper "standard" type>
Examples:
"Standard Assembly":
"Electric Assembly"

Any help or thoughts appreciated.

After filling up the tank with good gas and adding some Lucas Fuel treatment, and a touch of Marvel Mystery Oil, I haven't heard the buzzing sound, there are no codes, no rough idle, or hesitation. I remain skeptical though.
