Default xD - New battery too large for holding bracket

New to this forum, so hopefully I do this right.

I drive a 2008 xD. About a year ago, I broke down while traveling and had to buy a new battery in some small NC town. Didn't have many options, but I got one that worked and fits on the battery "tray" just fine (Duralast Gold 35-DLG).
However, I've now realized that the metal bracket that goes over the battery to hold it in place doesn't fit anymore. The battery is a larger size than the stock one and probably a good 3 or 4 inches too long now.

Has anyone else accidentally purchased a battery too large? Are there any brackets out there that can work for a battery this size to hold it in place?

If there are no brackets I can buy, would it be okay to duct tape the battery down? I wouldn't want the tape to melt/catch fire, but if I get in a wreck, I don't want it becoming a projectile or damage anything under the hood.

TL;DR...Bought a battery that is too large for 2008 xD. How do I secure it now that the brackets don't fit anymore?

I bought a new battery a few months ago and the replacement was slightly taller but the brackets still worked.

My hubby had to bend the bracket slightly to fit the new battery (open it up a slight bit). Could you try that?

You should go to the store and buy the correct battery for your car. They aren't meant to be interchangeable.

Just about all batteries are interchangeable. I have a optim red top in my engine bay. Not as tall as the stock battery but it fits in there. Then I have 5 XS power XP3000s in the rear. All he had to do is get his length and width And find a battery that fit within those. Then check the height. My kinetick hc1400 would of fit up front but it was too tall and I couldn't lay it on its side.

Could it work? Yes, It is working. Does that mean you should continue using the wrong battery? Thats up to the guy who bought the battery. Just because the car will work with the larger battery doesn't mean it has been designed to work there, things like CCA and size will be different. There's a reason why there are several styles and types of batteries and not a few models. Obviously since the tie-down doesn't work it's not the right size. The original poster wants to solve his problem with the tie-down, I suggested getting the right battery.

If the battery fits in the tray then buy some heavy duty zip ties and call it good.
