6x9 speaker rack
For Christmas I recevied 4 6.5 speakers and a speaker install from Best Buy, well they said they couldn't do it. And I am just not brave e-nuff to drill out the current speakers and making the template for the speakers and such.
Well in my research I found a post on this forum where a guy built a sub rack and placed where the trunk cover (can that really be called a cover?) goes.
So I took that idea, and used 2 6x9s instead of the sub.
I must admit I paid cartoys to run the power wire for me (again my confort lvl is just not there when it comes to that kind of stuff, and watching how they had to tear apart the dash and all running a wire tru the fire wall.. I am glad I did pay for it LOL)
And I must say I am very happy with the results, and I now have a more "surround sound" fullness in the cabin where before the back sounded so flat.
All in all with the install and parts, I spent about 300 bucks.
Base rack cut, and parts ready to go.

Holes cut for rack,

Veiw of amp and crappy staple gun work

Completed!!

I will get the exacts if you want.
But I will tell you how I came up with the template to cut the wood, I had ordered Guitar Hero for my son from walmart, I took the box it came in, cut it up a bit till I was able to get it to fit in the trunk, then just took the template, marked it on the wood and cut away :-)
Well I hate to toot my own speakers so to speak
But now that I have been driving around rocking out. I am loveing it :-)
It took me a bit of tweeking, adjusting the imput levels on the amp and such.
I find the SSP set to Feel with a car setting of Tc seems to give me the best results.
And it really does give a "surround sound" feel in the cabin, the only thing missing is a center speaker :-)
Hmmmmmmmm

The black covering I got at Joann Fabrics, so any store like that should have the cloth, even some walmarts have a fabric section
All it is is just a black velvet feeling cloth, about 4 bucks for 1 1/2 yards.
Tthe front side of the board (the rear seats side) is 43 1/2 inches
The back side (the side that goes against the hatch) is 38 8/10th (almost 39) inches
Thickness is 1/2 inch.
Width is 11 3/4th inches (I would say I could have added another inch each way)
Now the trick is getting the correct angle on the sides and cutting the space for that little notch that is there, for this again I suggest using some carboard or something like that so you can get an exact fit.
I hope this helps :-)
