Default do scions come with speaker filters?

i just installed four rockford fosgate t162c (75 watts rms). the two in the front sound awesome, but the two in the back sound restricted. as if they had low pass filters. has anyone experience this problem? do i new a different head unit? or can add an amp to solve this?

Yes, at least on 06 xB.

The rears are attenuated/low passed for the crappy quality of the speakers. The tweets (at least for an xB with 6 speakers) have a cap on them also.

I found this out when I added a LOC to the rear outputs. Less bass. I moved them to the fronts and was much happier.

And as haole said try different SSP settings.

hold down the ssp button until it lets you select car. use the volume **** to switch between xD, xB, and tC. tC will give you a lot more sound in the rear speakers, and you can still use ssp 'feel' or hear'.

Switching to tC doesn't really make it sound that well in the xD. I have it set on it that and it still doesn't sound that good. It might be because of the way the xD is inside versus the tC. Dunno though. Personally I'm envious of the stock sound system in the tC!

I don't think it sounds that good either, but I thought it might help with some new speakers.
I think I am just going the AVIC D3 route when I have some extra dough. I'll upgrade the speakers then too.

I'm baffled by the rear speakers as well. I thought something was wrong with the speakers because when I would fade from front to rear, the rear speakers were WAY LOW in volume. Fiddling with the controls only helped marginally. I had Alpines installed place of the stock speakers (the magnets are miniscule) and there wasn't much of an improvement. Do you other owners have a problem with output from the rear speakers? I haven't taken it to the dealer yet (it's a month old), but I'm about ready to.

With sonyas car (xDevious) we have the same problem. Im thinking alot of it has to do with the placement of the rear speakers.

I have the same problem with mine. I tried the SSP stuff and did not make a difference. If I fade all the way to the rear there is hardly any sound coming out. Fronts seem normal. I do not think it is a problem with the placement of the speaker but possibly a problem with the headunit.

I just installed my aftermarket Kenwood HU that was in my previous car. It sounds much better, to me any way.
I replaced the speakers first with some polk aftermarket units. That helped a little but not much. I've been reluctant to change the HU because I didn't want to loose the steering wheel control, but I finally broke down and changed it. It sound so much better.

Now if anyone knows how to integrate the steering wheel controls into the aftermarket HU that would be cool.

apparently, you can buy an adapter from:

it should be the one with the part number 'SWI-JACK'. double check on this though, as i have not seen what the steering wheel interface setup looks like. youll have to look at where their dealers are to get your hands on one im guessing.

I am pretty sure its the placement. Just fade so all the signal is on the rear speaks. Then recline your seat all the way back and voila! you now hear some treble, not muted. People sitting in the back will think they sound decent. IMO you should invest in the front soundstage if yer gonna.

I went bi amped with the front soundsatge. Got some polk sr6500' s on a blowout from

tweeter. and have 2 alpine plt-5 subs in the hatch. The plt are 250 watts each and have built in amps. My first foray into subs and I likey. EAch PLT is supposed be = to 2-10's so it's like having 4 10's. I swore I'd never get subs and look at me now! Also did the sound dampening
in the front doors. The cool thing about these subs is that there is nearly nearly no
mechanical noise.

Recline your seats and see how muffled they are. Placement I tell ya, placement.

I have had people in the back complain that there is no sound coming from them. With fader set at 0, SSP set on XD, Feel, and no speed compensation.

My Father-in-law's XD is the same way. He took his to the dealer and they told him that other new ones were that way. So they did not attempt to fix it.

I'm going to get my brother's sound level meter and see what the readings are about a foot from the speakers.

I guess if we want it fixed we need to have the dealer put it on a service ticket and tell us it is normal. When enough of us complain they will issue a TSB on it. This is not just happening to the XD's it is also happening to the XB's and TC's with the same radio. I did a search and we are not the only ones having this trouble.

I would like to get it fixed before I add an amp and sub. and they try to blame it on my install.

The reason I want to go with the Stock Headunit is that I like the fact that theives won't mess with it and the controls are in place (Steering Wheel, Ipod, Aux).

Talk to your dealer!

With the new fronts and the subs people in the back dont care and I really do hear highs when the front seat is reclined comming out of those rear doors.

If your really stuck on the stock setup I would move the front midwoofers to the back

and mount the tweets up on the rear doors.

Just replace the front midwoofs and tweets with identical pioneers speakers.

Maybe like 40-50 bucks plus your time.

Personally I think its a waste but if I was tighter on the budget (ie; younger)

Thats is a solution.

You could put really expensive speakers in those back doors and they would sound

better, but you would still be missing a lot of the highs.

Take a radio at home and put it behind a upolstered chair and see how it sounds

compared to in front of and next to you. Some speakers have aimable tweets and

that would ceretainly help for the people in the back.

You could also install a rear deck and mout speakers back there. Thats more work

though.

Hey pickledchang,

You have a PM.

I noticed on my tC that if I fade the speakers at all, to the front or rear the stock subwoofer drops also. Anyone know how it is wired?thinking it has all 4 channels from the HU going to its cheesy little amp built in. If I went with an aftermarket HU would the stock subwoofer still work, I dont need huge bass anyway.

Default problem solved !

I've had the same problem until upgraded from my "premium" Pioneer HU to the Scion Navigation(SNS100). The rear speakers are loud now if I fade all the way out to them. Don't know what's wrong with Pioneer, but it's definitely not wiring or speakers problem It's the HU !

I had the same problem when I checked it out the ssp wasn’t even set to the XD it was on Tc guess they never set it when they installed the radio. And to fix the problem with the rear speaker I turned the radio up and balanced the sound with the fader R4 or R5 sounded best to me and just left the radio on that setting. Good enough for me
