Default Installing speakers and removing door panels.

I got the premium stereo set up, but yet feel the sound is lacking and found out really the only thing premium is the head unit has a little bit better specs, a lcd screen that well could look better and some RCA out jacks.

So 1st thing I looked at was replacing the stock speakers.

Well best buy has a thing that you can match the speakers to the car, it said it takes 6.5 all around.

So I searched the forums (and other sites) for some DIY info (removing door panels and such), found a post here and there saying what to do, and I found a real good post with photos of a tC install, but I didn’t find much for the xD.

Anyway I went to best buy and got 4 speakers, and I paid for them to do an install and talked with the guy that does the installs and he said he has an xB and he talked about the pain he had when doing his (at his home) and he warned me that if the xD is the same way that they would not be able to do it for me.

Well after seeing the post on the photos of what the guy did on the Tc install, and what a pain the best buy dude said about replacing speakers in his xB, (plus I had to wait a few days till they could get me in) I got brave and pulled off the back door panel to take a look.

Well come to find the speakers are stuck in place with that darn rivet and in the same shape where you would need to make a bracket for it to fit and when I did go back to best buy they said yep we can not do it for you :-(

And I am just not brave enough to break out a drill to pop out the stock speakers so no DIY for me LOL

Well I did find out, the door panels are easy to remove and replace :-)

its actually easier said that just looking at it.. i did it on my xd a couple months ago, all you do is drill out the rivits.. take the speaker and on some 1/2" MDF, make a outline of the entire bezel, then make the circle cutout in the middle of the bezel mark to cut the hole for the new speaker... cut the hole out before cutting the bezel out... Walla.. done.. instant custom bezel for 6.5 speakers...

I will see about gettting you some pics of the finished project by the end of the week as work takes up my time in the shop.

all in all, takes bout 2 hrs of time (but worth it). Tools needed is a jigsaw with a good cutting blade for wood, some wood screws to mount them to the door, and some new speakers.

I do no that best buy and circuit city does not do custom work, and our scions do need custom work for door speakers.

Oh and the bezels that you can buy from metra for speaker mounts,, don't work.

Did you ever post the pics, Ragingbull78?

How do you remove the door panels?

And that's supposed to be easier than making an MDF template for the rear doors? lol!
