Default New Guy with I.C.E. questions

Hi. New guy to the forums. I've done previous custom work to my 04 sunfire but sold it back when the xD came out in 08. I really miss my custom stereo system and want to either install a new head unit or my older dvd head unit. However, I was wondering, by installing any other headunit besides ones from scion will I void the aux port, ipod port, and the steering wheel controls? Secondly, if it does void the above mention controls and ports is there a way of still getting functionality from them? Thanks.

very little in the way of A/M addonns will void your warranty, see Magnuson moss act. there are some adapter harnesses available, will depend on what unit you will want to use.

I'm not so worried about voiding my warranty. I just don't want to lose functionality of the steering wheel controls mostly, and to a lesser extent the ipod and aux ports near the gear shift. Any recommendations for a good dvd headunit or dvd/navi headunit?

Yes you will lose control of the steering wheel controls and the aux/ipod ports but there is an interface you can buy to make the wheel controls work again and most newer radios have a hook up for aux/ipod

^thats not 100% true

If you install an eclipse radio, you'll be able to keep the steering wheel controls. Also, almost every aftermarket radio comes with a seperate aux input

Howevern there's no way to get around the fact that the ipod input won't work... You'll need to buy an adapter with any radio you get

THATS not 100% true, not all eclipse radios are plug and play and some eclipse radios will require an adapter, and some will not work with steering wheel controls at all (some have no ability to use steering wheel controls).

Does Eclipse still kick ___? I put one in during the early '90s and it is probably still the best audiophile system I ever owned. Paid for it dearly; twice as much as most other systems.
