Default Opinions on the Cobra XRS 9960G.

I know it is not a V1 or 9500 Series but I'm not looking to pay $500 for a radar detector either. Reviews seems to put this unit as the next best thing even though the actual detection range is kind of poor. I was just wondering could someone here give me some feedback on the Cobra unit if they or someone they know owns one.

Don't know much about it... I'm on the fence as to whether I want to sell my V1. I don't speed much any more these days.

Just out of curiousity since I dont know a lot about radar detectors, what exactly is the difference between say this, and the $50 model Cobra at Wal Mart in terms of radar detection? I know there are different bands as well as laser, do the more expensive ones detect from further away? Or do they all just have more bells and whistles in addition to radar detection?

Yes, better radar detectors will alert sooner, but also will have fewer false alerts. There are many other things that can set off radar detectors such as automatic doors and bank security systems. The cool thing about the V1 is the "bogey counter". This tells you how many independent signals it is receiving and which direction they are coming from.

The reason that is so nice is that there may be a grocery store or bank that sets ff your detector at a certain point on your route. You know that because it sets it off every time. However, if it picks up another signal (like a legit speed trap), the counter will go up, and the direction arrow may point in a different direction than the store or bank that you know about. Then you know there is something else triggering it.
