Default Scion xD AVIC-F90BT Installed :)

hi guys, i think this is my first post on this forum, so i have a 2008 xD really happy with the mpg and the car! The stock radio kinda sucked for me, plus i wanted a GPS cause i drive around a lot, so i decided to get the AVIC-F90BT. The unit is awesome if u dont mind the long boot up (about a minute) So here goes the details, pics :

The actual unit in a box

The car

Taking Factory Stereo out:

Wire Harness

Ready for the new unit:

The unit:

Comparison

Hooking up reverse signal (tapping on backup lights)

Tapping into VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)

All ready

The microphone (for bluetooth connection)

GPS Antenna

How the GPS Antenna cable is going to the stereo...

Inside the light fixture

And down towards the front of the car

End product:

Bluetooth connection established !

All ready installed!

The sound quality is awesome, installation took like 2,5 hours but i took my time and have done this for a few other cars and friends cars... The xD is a very easy car to work on. Now the sound is 10x better than stock.. Bluetooth conversation is awesome too. GPS signal is excellent, i have seen other putting the gps antenna on the dash but i wanted a more "clean look"
Let me know if u have any questions, its a really easy thing to do!

Thanks! According to the manual and the AVIC 411 forum, the gps works better when it gets the speed from the VSS line... i think it uses it when u get under a bridge or a tunnel and it loses the GPS signal, but at least it knows u are moving since it can read your speed from the VSS. I never really tried it i just did it anyway!

Uh no. The ONLY xD with a paint matched interior is the RS 1. All the other colors have the BSP paint on the interior plastics.

And thats the unit I want!! Does it seriously take that long to bootup?

Default GPS Install

I would never want to see my car all opened up like that--call me when its ready.

Can you have the radio on at the same time the gps is on the screen??
Did you add Sirius??
How many CD's can you load.

I want that system but have to get over my paying $400 for the upgraded radio that came with the car

I have had other cars that it way more difficult to do an installation... this one was really easy.
Yes you can have the radio on at the same time you have GPS (Radio, usb,sd memory, CD/DVD audio ) so pretty much u can listen to anything u want when u have the GPS on.
It can load 1 CD/DVD , u can copy songs as data on discs, so a DVD would get around 1000 songs.. not too bad.
You can connect it to your ipod/iphone too.
I did not add Sirius but it can be added.
You know i am pretty sure if you wait a few more months it will go down to $400 but then if u dont wanna do it yourself you will have to pay around $200 for the installation..
Its a nice unit, no issues, i love it, and GPS is really important for me and it has saved my a$$ many times

I didn't see if you listed anything about getting the adapter for the steering wheel controls. Did you get an adapter for them or are you currently unable to use them? Just wondering what adapter to get since I'm pricing this out with a different model

I thought about running my Cb antenna cable through the taillight like you did, but the major concern i had is water getting in around the wire and into the tail light or interior metal of the car. Does your wire produce that problem?

i finally finished my install!
i left the steering wheel control out because i don't feel that $80 is worth spending just to hook it up.
my system cost me $120 used in perfect condition, only thing was that it didn't come with the xm, sirius or mic. but wasn't a big deal, separately bought the mic for $10, mounting bracket for $10 and harness for $6 all together.
the total cost: about $150!
planning to buy the xm or sirius soon.
