Default Seat Comfort

Hi all,
We are torn, we are looking at the xD and the matrix 1.8, we like both cars but the wife prefers the looks of the xD. Our concern is how comfortable are the seats. We are not tall people so the non height adjustment is not a beg deal both under 5'8", but it just seem not as comfortable as the matrix. Was just wondering if anyone had problems with the seats on long drives. The wife is also concerned about how if feels around busy highways, I know it's great zipping around town but does one feel vulnerable on the highways (wind and trucks etc.) Thanks we are just so confused, any insights would help.

I am 6'1 and I make a 5 hour drive from LA to Mammoth Mountian on a regular basis with my G/F ( who is 5'9 ) very comfortably.

needs lumbar support, but other than that the 15 min ride home from the dealer was nice.

My back hurt the first week or so of driving in the xD, but I got used to it and am comfortable now.

Like people said, lumbar support is needed.

I sat in the xD and wasn't very pleased. The seats aren't very supportive, but I had room (6'4). I couldn't fit in the back at all, nowhere near enough head room.

I drove mine around 8 hours in one shot..didn't get out once. Comfortable ride. I am 6'2" and skinny (155lbs). I think a height adjustment would come in handy, but I think eventually there will be seats that have it and will fit in the xD, so I'll just swap them. (Want to maintain the side curtain air bag...otherwise I'd just ****** up some celica seats).

Honestly.....flame me and you're a cool cat...The only time things get hairy is when you're really moving, 90+. No, I don't normally do it, but I have on occasion.

Thanks tmrepp, good to know that the box can move, not that I drive that fast nor would the wifey. good info non the less. But I take it you have no problems navigating the "normal" freeway speed and don't feel like you're going to get blow off by the wind or jet was by the other cars/trucks.

My longest road trip so far was about 2 hours and comfort was not a problem. The seats are firm; I like that. The seats remind me of my old 2003 WRX. I have always felt more connected to a car with heavy bolsters.

I find the RS1's ride to be more firm at highway speeds and some people will not like that as much as a regular xD.

due to lowering springs right?

I don't mind the highway. speed bumps aren't even a problem : P (haven't bottomed out yet)

Seat comfort isn't an issue for me...I'm 5'8. I have driven my xD from Colorado to California non-stop (except to get gas) and was very comfortable. Overall, a 17 hour drive...This past weekend I drove from Colorado to Yellowstone in WY for 12 hours, and again, comfort was not an issue...As for freeway driving, a strong wind can cause the xD to be a little unsettling, but it really isn't an issue.

Does the Matrix offer more ***** for the seat? I would prefer a bit more lumbar support in the xD but hey, can't get everything.

I don't think the matrix has a lumbar adjustment either, but it does have a height adjustment. But when we compared the two it just seems more lush as people have said the xD's seat feel firmer and maybe slightly narrower.

I haven't driven the Matrix so I can't really comment on it compared to the xD. However, I have driven from San Diego to Los Angeles and back again all in the same day with the car full of people and everyone had a great ride.

I love the front seats in the xD and like how they wrap up a little bit on the sides to give a snug fit when you sit in them.

I find the seats to be comfortable by giving me a snug fit but I find the fabrics of the seat uncomfortable in the summer. It's very hot whenever I sit on them and feels like I have parked my car in Death Valley. I had to buy some beaded seat covers for this matter.

You should try tinting your windows and putting a windshield sunvisor upo when you park.......

I had a Matrix for a good long while, and the seats didn't have lumbar support. The did have a height adjustment, as someone else pointed out, but that's about it.

I think the xD's seats are far more comfortable. The whole interior of the Matrix feels claustrophobic to me even though it is a bigger car.
